생성형 인공지능은 교사의 교육적 질문 생성 역할을 대신할 수 있는가

국문 초록

목적: 이 연구는 ChatGPT가 생성한 읽기 질문에 대한 교사들의 인식을 분석하는 데 목적이 있다. 방법: ChatGPT와 인간 교사가 생성한 질문을 비교·분석하고, 생성형 AI의 교육적 활용 가능성에 대한 FGI를 수행하였다. 결과: 그 결과, 인간 교사는 텍스트의 경계를 넘어서는 질문을 제시하는 경우가 많았으나, 개인이 상정하고 있는 질문의 상이 다르고, 질문의 유형에 따른 편향성이 나타났다. 반면 ChatGPT의 경우, 학습자 삶의 맥락과 연계된 질문은 거의 나타나지 않았지만 그 외 유형의 질문이 고르게 제시되었다. 한편, 교사들은 ChatGPT 정체 인식 전후에 따라 질문에 대한 평가를 달리하기도 하였다. 결론: 향후 교실에서 핵심 질문 생성자로서 교사의 본질적인 역할에 대한 탐색과 함께 생성형 AI 기술의 활용을 위한 다양한 후속 연구가 요청된다.

영문 초록

Purpose: This study aims to analyze teachers’ perceptions of the use of ChatGPT for automatic item generation in reading. Methods: For this purpose, the characteristics of reading items generated by ChatGPT and human teachers were compared and analysed. During the focus group interview(FGI), teachers were asked to rate the quality of all reading questions, without knowing which questions were generated by ChatGPT. Results: Questions generated by human teachers tended to use texts from multiple sources and to relate texts to learners’ lives. The types of questions generated were uneven, with individual teachers having their own specific ideas about essential questions. On the other hand, ChatGPT produced different types of items in a relatively even way. However, compared to the teachers, ChatGPT did not produce many thought-provoking questions relating texts to learners’ lives. During the FGI, teachers had a positive view of the questions prior to their knowledge that they were generated by ChatGPT. After the teachers were informed about the items that were automatically generated, they became more critical of the same set of items, recognizing their limitations as well as their potential benefits. Conclusion: This study explored the feasibility of using ChatGPT for automatic item generation in the domain of Korean reading, through teachers’ perceptions of item quality. In the future, various follow-up studies can be conducted to examine the role of AI technology in the classroom.
