초-중학교 전환에 따른 수학 성취도와 태도, 수학 수업 활동의 변화

국문 초록

본 연구의 목적은 우리나라 초등학교 4학년 학생들이 중학교 2학년으로 진학하는 과정에서 수학 성취도, 태도, 수학 수업 활동이 어떻게 변화되는지를 분석하는 것이다. 이를 위해서 TIMSS 2011 4학년 자료와 TIMSS 2015 8학년 자료를 우리나라와 더불어 성취도 상위 5개국에 속하는 싱가포르, 대만, 홍콩, 일본을 대상으로 분석하였다. 우리나라 학생들이 4학년에서 8학년으로 진학하면서 겪는 수학 학습의 특징은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 수학 성취도는 4학년과 8학년에서 비슷한 수준이다. 하지만 상대적으로 상위권 여학생들의 성취도는 크게 증가하였다. 둘째, 수학 학습에 대한 흥미와 수학 수업에 대한 기대가 4학년부터 낮다. 셋째, 수학 수업 활동은 암기하기, 선생님 설명 듣기 활동의 비율이 4학년부터 높은 편이다. 넷째, 중학교에서 계산기를 활용하는 비율이 낮은 편이었다. 마지막으로 본 연구의 결과로부터 우리나라 수학 수업에 대한 교수학적 시사점을 제시하였다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to investigate the changes of math achievement, attitudes, and math classroom activities when 4th grade students become 8th grade students. The main data are the scores of mathematics achievement and the results of survey questions of 4th grade of TIMSS 2011 and 8th grade of TIMSS 2015 among 5 nations: Singapore, Chinese Taiwan, Hongkong SAR, Japan, and Korea, republic of. The data were analyzed by frequency analysis and t-test as a statistical method. The result of this study are as follows. First, math achievement remains in the top among countries but the ratio of high- performance female students increased from 4th grade to 8th grade. Second, 4th grade Korean students have low interest in mathematics learning, 8th grade Korean students have worse interest. Generally the interest of mathematics learning decreased form 4th grade to 8th grade among 5 countries. And 4th grade Korean students have low expectancy in mathematics learning and teacher’s lessons. Third, the ratios of memorizing and listening to teacher’ explanation of math classroom activities are high from of 4th grade students. Forth, the ratio of using calculators in 8th grade math lessons is too low. Through these results, this study makes some suggestions for mathematics education in Korea.
