판소리 명창 권삼득의 생애와 설화화 양상

국문 초록

이 논문은 권삼득 명창의 생애를 살펴보고, 그의 설화화 양상을 검토해 보는 데 목적이 있다. 권삼득 명창은 전북 완주군 용진면 구억리 출신으로, 양반 권래언의 둘째 아들이다. 판소리사에 큰 족적을 남긴 권삼득 명창은 전국 각처를 다니며 광대로서의 삶을 보내다 1841년 생을 마감했으며, 완주군 용진면 구억리 이목정에 묻혔다. 권삼득은 설화화 될 수 있는 요소를 많이 지니고 있다. 당시만 하더라도 양반 가문출신이 광대의 길로 들어선다는 것은 매우 이례적인 일이었기 때문에, 비가비라는 사실 자체가 이야기화 될 수 있는 극적인 성격을 강하게 지니고 있기 때문이다. 그와 관련된 설화는, (1) 명창이 된 이유, (2) 기량과 관련된 이야기, (3) 신분과 관련된 이야기, (4) 사후 후일담으로 나누어 볼 수 있다. 명창설화는 기본적으로 판소리문화의 전승과 향유에 관련된 집단 사이에서 형성·전승된 이야기라고 할 수 있다. 처음에는 사실(事實)을 기반으로 하여 이야기화 되던 것이 점차 변형과 윤색의 과정을 거쳐 설화화 되는 양상을 보이고 있는바, 설화를 통해 해당 명창의 개인사를 어느 정도 되짚어 볼 수 있다는 점에서 중요한 의미가 있다. 명창설화는 지역의 문화자산으로 활용할 수 있는 가치도 지니고 있다. 그의 출생지인 완주군 용진면 구억리에는 권삼득 생가, 무덤, 소리굴, 소리구멍 등이 복원되어 잘 정비된 상태로 자리 잡고 있다. 용진면 원구억 마을에는 권씨 집안이 약 20여호 거주하고 있으며, 권씨 문중 사당이 권삼득 명창의 생가로 지정되어 있다. 이목정에 있는 권삼득 명창의 묘소 앞에는 1994년 11월 13일 문중에서 세운 비석과 2003년 12월 18일 완주군에서 묘소를 정비하면서 세운 비석이 공존하고 있다. 이 지역에는 권삼득 관련 설화도 제법 많이 전승되고 있다. 이들 설화는 자칫 역사 속의 인물로만 기억될 뻔했던 권삼득의 삶과 명창으로서의 활동상을 생생하게 재현하여 보여줌으로써 유형의 문화자산 가치를 창출하고 있다. 마당창극 <비가비 명창 권삼득>이나 애니판소리 <비가비 명창 권삼득>에서 볼 수 있는 것처럼, 새로운 작품을 만드는 원천이 될 수 있다는 점은 권삼득 설화가 갖는 소중한 의의이다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is highlighting the Kwon Samdeuk’s life and considering aspects how his life becomes folktale. The master singer Kwon Samdeuk was born in Wanju-gun Yongji-myeon Gueok-ri in Jeollabuk-do province, and the second son of yangban Kwon Raeeon. Kwon Samdeuk who left his big footprints in pansori history wandered around the whole country as kwangdae and died in 1841. He was buried Wanju-gun Yongjin-myeon Gueok-ri Imokjeong. Kwon Samdeuk’s life had a lot of elements becoming forlktale. His life was exceptional because he became kwangdae though he was a man of yangban birth. We called that “bigabi” and it gave Kwon Samdeuk’s life dramatic features. Folktales related with Kwon Samdeuk can be organized next 4 types: (1) the story about reasons he became kwangdae, (2) the story about his musical ability and skill, (3) the story about his class, (4) the story after his death. Myeongchang-seolhwa which means the folktales about the master singer has been formed and handed down among the group related with the transmission and enjoyment of pansori. It was the first step that Myeongchang-seolhwa was formed from the fact, but it started to be transformed and embroidered and became a folktale. These aspects have significant meaning because we can look back on his individual life by these folktales. Myeongchang-seolhwa also has great value to utilize regional cultural properties. In Kwon Sam deuk’s birthplace, Wanju-gun Yongji-myeon Gueok-ri, there are the house of Kwon sam deuk’s birth, grave, sori-gul(the cave Kwon sam deuk trained his singing skills), and sori-gumeong(the small size of sorigul) restored well. In Wongueok village in Yongji-myeon, there are 20 Kwon’s households and their shrine was designated as the house of Kwon sam deuk’s birth. In front of Kwon sam deuk’s grave, there are tombstone built in November 13th 1994 by Kwon’s households and another one built in December 18th 2003 by Wanju-gun. In this region, there are quite a lot of folktales related with Kwon sam deuk. These folktales reenact his life and considerable activity of master singer, moreover, keep creating values of cultural properties. Kwon sam deuk’s folktales have another importance that it can be the one source to create new work of art like we can see in madang-changgeuk and ani-pansori .
