국문 초록

한국의 다문화교육은 이주 배경 학생들을 대상으로 하는 교육이 주를 이루고 있다. 본 연구의 목적은 한국 다문화교육의 한계를 극복하기 위해 비판적 다문화주의에 기반한 중등학교 학생들의 다문화 인식개선을 위한 교육 모델을 제시하는 것이다. 교육 모델은 김포지역 중고등학교 학생을 대상으로 진행한 교육사례를 바탕으로 하고 있다. 그리고 ‘다문화 인식개선’의 의미는 다문화교육의 한계를 극복하고 다문화에 대한 고정관념을 개선한다는 의미를 내포하고 있다. 제시한 교육 모델은 모든 학생을 대상으로 하며, 비판적 다문화주의에 기초하여 다문화 인식개선 교육을 통해 이루고자 하는 가치는 권력관계의 변화를 추구하고 이주민을 삶의 주체로 인식하며 주체적으로 참여하여 변화를 추구하는 것이다. 가치를 이루기 위해 교실 권력이 교사에게 집중되지 않도록 교실을 배치하였다. 수업은 동기유발-주제 접근-주제 심화-실천으로 구성하였다. 교육 주제를 이주민으로 한정하지 않고 젠더, 장애, 노동, 환경, 이주민, 난민 등으로 확대하여 차별이 발생하는 기제를 알아내고 그것을 금지 시키는 방법을 대화와 토론을 통해 찾아내고 학습자가 실천 방법까지 성찰할 수 있도록 하였다.

영문 초록

Multicultural education in Korea is mainly aimed at students from migrant backgrounds. The purpose of this study is to present an educational model for improving multicultural awareness of secondary school students based on critical multiculturalism to overcome the limitations of multicultural education in Korea. The educational model is based on educational cases conducted for middle and high school students in Gimpo. And the meaning of 'improving multicultural awareness' implies overcoming the limitations of multicultural education and improving stereotypes about multiculturalism. The proposed education model targets all students, and the value to be achieved through multicultural awareness improvement education based on critical multiculturalism is to pursue fundamental changes in power relations, recognize migrants as subjects of life, and independently participate in changes. In order to achieve value, classrooms were arranged so that classroom power was not concentrated on teachers. The class consisted of motivation-subject approach-subject deepening- practice. Education topics were not limited to migrants, but expanded to gender, disability, labor, environment, migrants, and refugees to find out the mechanisms for discrimination, find ways to ban them, and allow learners to reflect on how to practice them.
