한말 안동지역 혁신 유림과 신민회의 상관성 연구

국문 초록

본 논문은 안동지역의 협동학교 설립과 혁신 유림의 서간도 망명이 신민회와어떤 상관성이 있는지를 규명하고자 하였다. 협동학교는 임동면장 류인식에 의해 1907년 초에 임동면 내에 설립되었지만, 그가 집안에서 스승에게서 파문을당할 정도로 거센 반발에 직면하여 제대로 뿌리를 내리지 못했다. 그 뒤 혁신유림의 사상 전회 이후 1908년 9월경 김동삼 등의 적극적인 지원으로 호계서원에 기성회가 조직되고 정재학파의 인맥을 통해 안동 동쪽의 7개 면의 재정적인지원을 받아 천전리 협동학교가 중등 교육기관으로 새롭게 출발하였다. 이를기회로 신민회가 교사를 파견하는 등 직간접적으로 협동학교에 도움을 주면서협동학교는 명문 사학으로 발돋움하였다. 이로써 안동은 신민회와 연결 고리를갖게 되었다. 한편, 혁신 유림의 대표적 인물인 이상룡은 대한협회 안동지회를조직하는 등 계몽운동을 적극적으로 펼쳤지만, 결국 나라가 망하고 대한협회가 해산을 당하자 새로운 길을 모색했다. 그는 안동 내에서 자결 순국이 이어지는가운데서도 자신만의 독립운동의 방략을 택하고자 했다. 이때 1910년 9월 양기탁·이동녕·이회영 등의 주도로 서간도 독립운동기지 개척이 추진되었는데, 이상룡과 김대락 집안과 혼맥으로 연결된 울진 출신의 신민회 회원 주진수와 황만영 등에 의해 그런 소식이 전해졌다. 서간도로 떠났던 신민회 인사들이 돌아온뒤 1910년 12월 집단 망명을 본격화하던 중에 주진수와 황만영이 이상룡을찾아와 그간의 정황을 전하면서 안동에서의 가족 망명이 실행에 옮겨졌다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this paper is to investigate the relationship between the establishment of a Hyeobdong school(協同學校) in Andong and innovative Confucian scholars’s exile in SeoGando with the Shinminhoe. The Hyeobdong school was established in Imdong-myeon in early 1907 by Ryu In-sik, but it did not take root properly in the face of strong opposition to the extent that he was excommunicated from his family and his teacher. After that, in September 1908, with active support from Kim Dong-sam and others, the association was organized at Hogyeseowon Confucian Academy, and Cheonjeon-ri Hyeobdong school was newly started as a secondary educational institution with financial support from seven myeon east of Andong through the connections of the Jeongjae School. With this opportunity, the Hyeobdong school became a prestigious private school as the Shinminhoe directly or indirectly helped the cooperative school, such as dispatching teachers. As a result, Andong has a connection with the Shinminhoe. Meanwhile, Lee Sang-ryong, a representative of the innovative Confucian scholars, actively carried out enlightenment campaigns by organizing the Andong Branch of the Korean Association, but eventually sought a new way when the country collapsed and the Korean Association was dissolved. He tried to choose his own strategy for independence movement amid a series of self-determination in Andong. At this time, in September 1910, the development of the Seogando Independence Movement Base led by Yang Ki-tak, Lee Dong-nyeong, and Lee Hoe-young was promoted, and such news was reported by Joo Jin-soo and Hwang Man-young, members of the Shinminhoe from Uljin, who were connected to the Lee Sang-ryong and Kim Dae-rak families. After the return of Shin Min-hoe, who left for Seogando Island, in December 1910, Joo Jin-soo and Hwang Man-young visited Lee Sang-ryong to convey the circumstances, and family asylum in Andong was implemented.
