국문 초록

이 글은 한국문학에 등장하는 ‘우울’이 어떤 방식으로 자기 시대의 해석적 활동을 하고 있는지, 어떤 문화적 실천을 수행하는지 탐색해 보고자 했다. 한국사회에서 자본주의적 근대성이 가장 특징적으로 드러났던 1930년대, 1960년대, 2000년대를 대상으로 분석한 결과 는 다음과 같다. ‘우울’이란 감정은 각기 자기 시대와 대결하는 이질적인 존재구성의 가능성을 보여주었다. ‘우울’은 불행한 상실의 삶이 불러일으키는 슬픔의 정서다. 그것이 일반적인 의미에서 능력의 약화, 가치없음을 지적할 만한 측면이 있는 것은 분명 사실이다. 그럼에도 불구하고 ‘우울’은 지금 여기의 세계에 결코 무감각하게 적응하지 않는다는 대항기제로 작동한다. 나아가 강요된 화해를 수락하고 위안받기를 거절하는 부정의 자의식에서 비롯되는 감정이다.

영문 초록

This article is to attempt to explore in what manner the ‘melancholy’ appeared in Korean literature has been doing interpretive activities of its times and what cultural practice it has been performing. The results of analyzing the 1930s, the 1960s, and the 2000s, in which capitalist modernity was revealed most characteristically, are as follows. The emotion of ‘melancholy’ showed the possibility of heterogeneous existence composition confronting its own times. ‘Melancholy’ is the emotion of sorrow caused by the unhappy life lost. It is certainly true that it has aspects to be pointed out as weakening abilities and worthlessness. Nevertheless, ‘melancholy’ is operated as counter mechanism that it does not adapt itself senselessly to the world here and now. Furthermore, it is an emotion that originates from negative self-consciousness that refuses to accept forced reconciliation and being comforted.
