서울 지역 세대 간 /ㅔ/와 /ㅐ/ 모음의 포먼트 측정

국문 초록

본 연구는 서울 지역의 젊은 세대와 노년 세대의 단모음 /ㅔ/와 /ㅐ/의 포먼트를 측정하여 음성의 조음음성학적 특징과 스펙트로그램과의 관련성에 대해 고찰하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 포먼트 측정에 대한 보다 정확한 자료를 제공함으로써 세대 간 단모음 /ㅔ/와 /ㅐ/ 체계에 대한 분석을 시도하였다는 점에서 의의가 있다. 서울 지역 /ㅔ/와 /ㅐ/의 세대 간 차이를 알아보기 위하여 표준어를 구사하고 서울에 3대 이상 거주하는 60～70대 화자 4명과 10～20대 화자 4명을 피실험자로 삼았다. 성별은 각각 남녀 2명으로 하여 성별의 균형도 맞추었다. 실험은 2010년 12월 5일에 진행되었다. 포먼트 평균값을 보면, 서울 지역 노년 세대에 나타난 /ㅔ/와 /ㅐ/의 F1과 F2의 값은 유의한 값을 보여 주고 있다. 즉, /ㅔ/가 /ㅐ/보다 상대적으로 혀의 높이가 높으며 혀의 위치가 전설 쪽으로 더 가깝다는 것이다. 이를 통해 서울 지역 노년 세대는 /ㅔ/와 /ㅐ/를 변별적으로 조음하고 있음을 알 수 있다. 반면 서울 지역 젊은 세대에 나타난 /ㅔ/와 /ㅐ/의 F1과 F2의 값은 큰 차이가 없다. 즉, /ㅔ/와 /ㅐ/에서 혀의 높이와 혀의 위치의 차이가 거의 나타나지 않고 있다. 이를 통해 서울 지역 젊은 세대는 /ㅔ/와 /ㅐ/를 변별적으로 조음하지 못함을 알 수 있다.

영문 초록

The purpose of the study is to consider the relevance of speech articulation to spectrogram through measuring formants of / ㅔ / and / ㅐ / of young and old generations in Seoul. This study has significance in an attempt to analyze short vowel / ㅔ / and / ㅐ / system between the old and young generations by providing more accurate data on formant measurement. To find out the intergenerational differences of / ㅔ / and / ㅐ / in Seoul, two groups of four who can speak standard Korean and have lived in Seoul more than three generations in a row were selected; the groups were divided by age: 10s to 20s and 60s to 70s. In addition, the gender balance was also considered, so each group had two females and males. The experiment was complemented on December 5th, 2010. When examining the average formant value, F1 and F2 values which were taken from Seoul residing old generation is showing meaningful value. That is, / ㅔ / has relatively higher tongue height than / ㅐ / and its tongue is closer to the front. This phenomenon shows that old generations in Seoul are distinctively articulating / ㅔ / and / ㅐ /. On the other hand, there is no significant difference between F1 and F2 values of / ㅔ / and / ㅐ / from Seoul residing young generation. In other words, the tongue height and place in / ㅔ / and / ㅐ / barely showed any difference. This means that young generations in Seoul cannot pronounce / ㅔ / and / ㅐ / distinguishably.
