중학교 국어 음절 교육 연구

국문 초록

본 연구는 국어 음절 교육의 필요성과 난점을 고찰하고, 중학교 국어 음절 교육의 현황(교육과정, 16종 교과서, 교사와 학습자의 인식)을 조사하여, 음절 교육의 개선 방안을 제안하였다. 음절 교육은 언어에 대한 분석적 사고를 가능하게 하고, 음운의 변동 현상 및 어문 규범, 한글의 우수성을 이해하게 하며, 스피치 교육에 필요하다. 그러나 음절 개념의 복잡성, 언어마다 다른 음절 구조, 음절 교육의 중요성 인식 부재로 인해 교육에 어려움이 있다. 중학교의 교사와 학습자를 대상으로 한 설문 조사 결과, 음절에 대한 지식이 저절로 형성되는 것은 아니며, 명시적인 교육이 필요하다는 결론을 내릴 수 있었는데, 실제 현장에서 잘 이루어지고 있지는 않았다. 학생들은 음절수를 잘 알지 못하거나, 표면음절보다는 기저음절을 음절로 인식하고 있었다. 이를 개선하기 위해서는 교육과정에서 음절 교육이 명시적으로 언급되어야 하고, 교과서에서 음절에 대한 설명, 학습활동이 제시되어야 하며, 외국어와 연관 지어 음절 교육을 해야 한다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study was to elucidate the necessity and difficulty of Korean syllable education, and to propose improvement plan by researching current state of Korean syllable education. Syllable Education enables analytic thinking about language, facilitates an understanding of the Regulation of Standard Korean and the excellence of Hangeul. However, the difficulty of defining syllables and the difference of syllable structures make it difficult to teach syllabic knowledges. Data were obtained from Educational Curriculum, phonetics units in 16 Korean language textbooks, and questionnaire survey on syllable recognition. Questionnaires were conducted from 181 middle school students and 20 middle school teachers in Seoul. Results showed that 1) students cannot acquire the knowledge about Korean syllable implicitly such that the explicit education is unavoidable; 2) students were not proficient in counting syllable number; 3) students considered deep syllable as ‘syllable’. Lastly, instructional implications for the classroom were also discussed. It is necessary to adopt syllable education in curriculum, to introduce the explanations of syllable and the curricular activities in textbooks, and to implement syllable education along with foreign languages.
