조선 후기 위기 담론이 고려해야 할 몇 가지 유의사항

국문 초록

이 글에서는 최근 많은 관심을 받고 있는 조선 후기의 위기 담론이 고려해야 할 몇 가지 유의사항에 대해 살펴보았다. 첫째, 조선 후기 위기 담론의 대전제라고 할 수 있는 17세기 소빙기 이상기후설의 최근 연구경향을 보면, 소빙기 이상기후가 전 지구적 현상이었다는 기존의 논의가 재검토되고 있다. 따라서 17세기 소빙기 이상기후에 대한 자연과학계의 연구를 주시하며 더욱 신중한 태도로 조선 후기 위기론을 논의해야 할 것이다. 둘째, 조선 후기 기후 연구에 『승정원일기』 날씨 기록이 다양하게 활용되고 있는데, 여기에는 면밀한 주의가 필요하다. 왜냐하면 『승정원일기』 상의 기상[자연] 상황과 실제의 기상[자연] 상황이 반드시 일치하는 것은 아니기 때문이다. 셋째, 실록의 재이 기록에는 정치성이 강하게 투영되어 있다. 조선 초기 역사 편찬에서 재이 수록에 관한 원칙은 요컨대 ‘재이는 역사에 반드시 기록해야 하지만, 모든 재이를 기록하는 것이 아니라 일에서 증험할 수 있는 재이만 기록하고 나머지는 생략한다.’는 것이었다. 실록은 단순한 사초史草 모음집이 아니라 한 왕대의 여러 자료를 수집해 일관된 체재로 재정리한 역사서로서의 성격이 컸고, 재이 수록에 관한 이와 같은 원칙이나 기본적인 방향은 대체로 공유되었을 것이다.

영문 초록

In this article, several points to consider in the crisis discourse of the late Joseon Dynasty, which has recently received a lot of attention, were examined. First, looking at the recent research trend around the theory of abnormal weather in the 17th century, which can be said to be the premise of the crisis discourse in the late Joseon Dynasty, the existing discussion that the abnormal climate in the 17th century was a global phenomenon is being reviewed. Therefore, it is necessary to discuss the crisis theory in the late Joseon Dynasty with a more cautious attitude, and to also carefully consider the research of the natural science community on the abnormal climate of the 17th century. Second, researching climate in the late Joseon Dynasty, the weather records in the Seungjeongwon Diary are used in various ways. But it requires close attention because the weather records in the Seungjeongwon Diary did not necessarily correspond with the actual weather situation. Third, politics is strongly projected in the portents record of the Annals of the Joseon Dynasty. The principle of recording the portents record when compiling history in the early Joseon Dynasty was that “the portents record must be recorded in history, but only the portents that can be verified in work should be recorded, and the rest should be omitted.” The Annals of the Joseon Dynasty was not just a collection of historical records, but a historical book that collected various data from a royal family and reorganized them into a consistent system, and these principles and basic directions for the portents record were generally shared.
