경부고속도로의 경제적 효과

국문 초록

경부고속도로 건설에 의한 고속도로 이용 활성화는 지역 간 네트워크를 통해 자원을 효율적으로 배분하고 정보 및 지식의 전파를 가능케 하였다. 하지만 기존 경부고속도로의 경제적 효과에 관한 연구들은 경부고속도로 건설이 국민 및 산업에 미치는 파급효과를 분석하였을 뿐, 경부고속도로 이용이 자원의 효율적 배분과 정보 및 지식 전파를 통해 경제성장에 기여한 효과를 추정한 연구는 없다. 이에 본 연구는 지속가능한 경제성장의 핵심인 총요소생산성에 경부고속도로 이용이 미치는 효과를 분석하였다. 특히, 경부고속도로 건설 이후의 경제적 효과 분석에 초점을 맞춰 경부고속도로 이용이 국가 생산성에 미치는 효과를 장·단기 성장모형을 통해 설명한다. 내생적 성장모형은 경부고속도로 이용률의 증가는 단기적으로 경제성장에 음(-)의 영향을, 장기적으로는 양(+)의 영향을 미치며, 일정한 기간이 지나면 양(+)의 장기효과가 음(-)의 단기효과를 상쇄시킬 수 있다는 이론적 설명을 제시한다. 분석 결과, 경부고속도로 건설을 통해 고속도로의 주요 목적인 시·공간의 밀접한 연계를 통한 자원의 효율적 배분과 정보 및 기술의 전달이 우리나라 국민경제와 지역 및 사업체 전반의 생산성 향상에 단기 수준에서는 음(-)의 효과를 야기하지만 장기적인 증가율에서는 양(+)의 효과를 미치는 것으로 확인하였다.

영문 초록

The expressway use by the construction of Gyeongbu Expressway makes it possible to efficiently allocate resources and disseminate information and knowledge through inter-regional networks. However, the existing studies on the economic effect of the Gyeongbu Expressway have only analyzed the ripple effect of the construction of the Gyeongbu Expressway on the people and industry. There are no studies estimating the effect of the use of the Gyeongbu Expressway on economic growth through efficient resource allocation and information and knowledge dissemination. Therefore, this study analyzes the effect of using the Gyeongbu Expressway on total factor productivity, which is the core of sustainable economic growth. In particular, focusing on the analysis of the economic effect after the construction of the Gyeongbu Expressway, the effect of the use of the Gyeongbu Expressway on national productivity is explained through a long-term and short-term growth model. In the endogenous growth model, an increase in the use of the Gyeongbu Expressway has a negative effect on economic growth in the short term, but a positive effect in the long term, and after a certain period, the positive long-term effect dominates the negative short-term effect. Our empirical result supports the above suggestion, showing that the use of the Gyeongbu Expressway contributes to the efficient allocation of resources and the transmission of information and technology.
