잠재프로파일분석을 통한 대학에서의 성인학습자 학습참여 유형과 예측요인 분석

국문 초록

본 연구는 성인학습자가 대학에서의 학습활동에 어떻게 참여하고 있는지를 ‘학습참여’의 관점에서 이해하고, 이러한 참여 결과가 어떤 요인의 영향으로 나타났을지 A원격대학의 사례를 들어 탐색하였다. 학습참여 활동경험을 유형화하기 위해 잠재프로파일분석을 시행한 결과, 첫째, A원격대학 성인학습자의 학습참여 유형은 ‘소극-최저 상호작용 참여형’, ‘중간-교수자·자기주도 참여형’, ‘적극-균형 참여형’의 세 유형으로 나타났다. 둘째, ‘소극-최저 상호작용 참여형’과 ‘중간-교수자·자기주도 참여형’은 특히 교수자 및 동료와의 상호작용이 부족한 것으로 나타났다. 셋째, 자기주도 및 교수자주도 학습활동은 전체적으로 충분한 편이었다. 넷째, ‘소극-최저 상호작용 참여형’에는 여성과 30~40대가, ‘적극-균형 참여형’에는 남성, 60대, 1학년이 상대적으로 많이 포함되었다. 마지막으로, 잠재집단 구분의 예측 변인을 확인하기 위해 다항로지스틱회귀분석을 시행한 결과, 성별, 대학지원환경, 대학몰입 및 평가, 대학 기대성과 등이 학습참여 유형 구분에 유의미한 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구는 대학이 새롭게 고민해야 할 책무성의 내용으로 ‘성인학습자의 학습참여’를 강조하고 있으며, 학습참여의 유의미한 예측요인이 대학 참여 이후 경험이라는 점에서 대학의 역할 및 노력 정도에 따라 성인학습자의 학습참여 정도가 달라질 수 있음을 시사하고 있다.

영문 초록

In this study, we try to understand how adult learners are currently engaged in learning activities in university from the perspective of 'student engagement', and explore what factors influence adult learner’s engagement patterns. A latent profile analysis on the engagement pattern of adult learners features the following four points: first, the engagement pattern can be classified into three groups: 'low-level and the lowest interaction participants(low-level)', 'middle-level and instructor and self-directed participants(middle-level)', and 'high-level and balanced participants(high-level)', where the degree of student engagement is clearly distinguished. Second, the 'low-level’ and 'middle-level’ participants have insufficient experience in interacting with instructors and colleagues. Third, self-directed and instructor-led learning experiences are high overall irrespective of the classification. Fourth, the 'low-level’ participants group mainly includes women, 30s and 40s, and the 'high-level’ participants mainly consists of men, 60s, and first graders. Finally, our multinomial logistic regression analysis indicates that gender, supportive environment of university, commitment of university, and expectation on the performance of university are the major factors affecting the degree of engagement. This study suggests that 'adult learners' engagement’ should be highlighted as a new accountability of university. In addition, given that university-related experiences are a predictor of future engagement, this study emphasizes the role and effort of the university that can vary adult learners' engagement.
