국문 초록

본 연구는 조선 시대 고지도의 상업 출판에 대한 試論적인 연구이다. 본문에서는 선행 연구를 바탕으로 상업출판물로서의 고지도의 가능성에 대한 검토를 진행하였다. 연구를 통하여 다음과 같은 성과를 얻을 수 있었다. 먼저, 조선 시대 사찬 지도 가운데 목판본으로 제작된 대표적인 지도와 김정호의 『대동여지도』를 중심으로 논의해 보았다. 상업 출판의 경우 공급자만이 아닌 수요자를 상정하고 제작을 하여야 하므로 본 글에서는 각 지도의 경우 어떠한 수요층을 대상으로 제작되었는가를 여러 경우의 수를 상정하여 제안하였다. 『대동여지도』의 경우 필자의 소결론은 판매용이라는 데에는 이견이 없으나 소량 주문생산 체제였을 가능성이 크다는 것이다. 또한 고종이 규장각에하사한 기록 등을 바탕으로 고위층을 중심으로 하는 수요계층을 대상으로 잡았던 것으로 판단하였다. 제작 부수와비용에 관한 문제는 초기 제작비용의 문제가 좀 더 명확히 규명되어 해결되어야 할 과제이다. 따라서 상업 출판 및조선 시대 문집 등의 출판 과정에 관한 연구를 중심으로 향후 여러 분야에 대한 분석이 필요하다. ‘조선 시대 책의문화사’ 측면에서 고지도를 어떻게 바라보아야 할 것인가에 대한 연구 외연의 확대를 통해 한국 고문헌에서 고지도가 가지는 위치를 좀 더 명확하게 이해할 수 있을 것으로 생각한다. 또한 조선 시대 지성사, 사회문화사의 측면에서 고지도를 거시적으로 이해하는 데 도움이 될 것으로 판단된다.

영문 초록

This study is a controversial study on the commercial publication of ancient maps of the Joseon Dynasty. In this paper, based on prior research, the possibility of old maps as commercial publications was discussed. The following results were obtained through the research. First of all, we discussed the representative map made as a woodblock print and Kim Jong-ho's Daedongyeojido. In the case of commercial publishing, it must be produced not only for suppliers but also for consumers, so in this paper, we proposed in various cases what kind of demand groups were produced for each map. In the case of Daedongyeojido, the author's conclusion is that although there is no objection that it is for sale, it is highly likely that it was a small order production system. Based on the records given to Kyujanggak by King Gojong, it was also judged that it was aimed at the demand group centered on high-ranking officials. The issue of production volume and cost is a problem that needs to be clarified and solved more clearly in the issue of initial production cost. Therefore, it is necessary to analyze various fields in the future, focusing on research on publishing processes such as commercial publishing and Joseon Dynasty literature collection. By expanding the research on how to view old maps in terms of "the cultural history of books in the Joseon Period," we can understand the location of old maps inKorean ancient literature more clearly. It is also considered to be useful for macro-understanding of ancient maps in terms of intellectual history and socio-cultural history of the Joseon Dynasty.
