최근 아동청소년판타지문학에 나타난 인물변신 양상 연구

국문 초록

최근 아동청소년판타지 중에는 기존의 인물변신과 차별화된 작품이 증가하고 있다. 기존 인물 변신이 내재적 욕망 표출에 목표로 두었다면 새로운 인물변신은 비인간과 결합하여 괴물, 마녀 등과 같은 새로운 존재가 되며 변신한 존재들은 현대사회에서 정의되는 ‘인간’의 범주로 볼 때 무언가 결여되어 있거나 반대로 인간보다 강한 힘을 가진 인물이다. 첫째 이들의 변신은 개인의 억압된 욕망의 표출이 아니라 비정상적인 사회의 모순을 개인에게 짊어지게 한 상황이다. 『몬스터 차일드』에서 주인공이 괴물이 된 것이나 『마령의 세계』에서 마령이 마녀 집안에서 태어난 것은 자신의 선택이 아닌 불가피한 상황이었다. 그러나 주인공들은 자신의 정체성에 대해 각성하는 과정을 통해 새로운 삶을 개척하는 주체로 새롭게 태어난다. 둘째 이들은 이전 판타지의 인물변신처럼 인간에서 비인간이 되었다가 다시 인간으로 회귀하지 않는다. 이들은 괴물이 된 채 살아가거나, 평생 인간과 마녀 사이의 수련이 지속됨을 깨닫는 등 비인간과 결합된 채 살아간다. 셋째 변신한 인물이 인간으로 다시 돌아가지 않음으로써 이들은 혼종적 정체성을 가진 노마드가 된다. 기존 사회와 일정한 거리를 두고 노마드로 살아가며 연대하는 것이 탈근대서사의 변신인물들이 걷는 방향임을 이들 작품은 제시하고 있다. 마지막으로 아동청소년문학 판타지의 양상은 아동청소년문학 장르 자체를 전유하여 아동청소년 문학에서 정의하는 아동과 청소년에 대한 메타적 성찰을 시도한 것으로도 해석된다. 아동청소년문학의 대부분은 근대적 성장서사의 규범 내에서 움직이지만 그들이 속한 제도에 의심을 품는 작품도 증가하는 추세이므로 지속적인 관심이 요구된다.

영문 초록

Recently, the fantasy of children s and youth literature is different from the existing character transformation. Characters combine with non-human to become new beings such as monster and witch, and the transformed beings are characters who lack something or have more power than human, when viewed as the category of ‘human’ defined in modern society. First, their transformation is not an expression of an individual s repressed desires, but a situation in which the individual has to bear the contradictions of an abnormal society. It was inevitable situation, not his own choice. However, the protagonists are reborn as main agent who pioneer a new life through the process of ‘awakening’ or ‘choosing’ about their transformation. Second, they do not go from non-human to human unlike the character transformation in the previous fantasy. They live in union with non-humans, either living as monsters, or realizing that the training between humans and witches continues for the rest of their lives. Third, the transformed human does not return to human form. Therefore they become nomads. These works suggest that the transformational characters of postmodern narratives are trends while living as a nomad at a distance from the existing society. Lastly, the aspect of children s and youth fantasy literature is interpreted as an attempt to meta-reflect on children and youth defined in literature by appropriating the genre of children s and youth literature itself. Most of children s and youth literature moves within the norms of modern narratives of growth, but since the number of works that have doubts about the system to which they belong is increasing, continuous attention is required.
