한국전쟁기 『주간국제』의 피란 서사와 문화정치

국문 초록

이 글은 한국전쟁기 <주간국제>의 매체전략에 대응하는 피란 서사의 지형을 연구하여 문화정치의 성격을 규명하는 데 목표를 두었다. 비판적 저널리즘 강화전략의 일환으로 마련된 사회비평에 주목하여 피란사회의 일상을 서사화한 구체적 면면과 그 의미를 밝히고자 했다. 우선, 내부필진의 사회비평은 방사자의 칼럼과 <뉴스스토리>였다. 방사자의 칼럼은 특유의 단평을 변주하여 피란사회의 혼란상에 비판적으로 접근하였다. 피란사회 제반문제를 망라했던 초기 단평은 집중형에서 날선 비판정신을 보였다가 불안의 정동을 심화시키는 방향으로 선회하였다. <뉴스스토리>는 피란사회에 횡행하던 문제의 이면을 부각시키며 비판적 저널리즘을 강화시켜갔지만, <해외 뉴스스토리>로 전환하면서 이를 선회하더니 윤리문제에 치중하는 방식으로 약화되었다. 그만큼 내부필진의 사회비평들은 강화된 언론 검열에 대응했던 사내의 편집방침에서 벗어나기 힘들었다. 다음으로, 외부필진의 사회비평은 오소백과 김소운이 담당했다. 오소백이 담당한 두 코너, 즉 <거리의 정보실>이 피란수도 부산의 열악한 주거환경에서 직업문제로 확대시킨 르포르타주였다면, <백면불>은 피란사회의 문제들을 풍자적으로 다루었던 칼럼이었다. 방사자의 칼럼과 달리 대상을 확대하고 날선 비판으로 일관했다. 그리고 김소운이 담당한 <토분록>은 특유의 감상적이면서도 비판정신을 살린 칼럼을 내보였다. 피란사회의 당면문제를 외파해갔던 오소백의 칼럼과 달리 김소운은 규범과 윤리문제로 내파하며 비판적 성찰해갔다. 다음으로, 『주간국제』의 피란지 서사는 피란수도 부산의 변화하는 일상문화를 미시적으로 고찰 가능하게 했다. 『주간국제』의 비판적 저널리즘 전략에 조응하는 한편 혼란한 피란사회의 일상을 독자대중과 공유하며 호소력 있는 여론을 이끌어내는 데 효과적이었다. 이러한 면면들은 피란수도 부산에 깊숙이 파고든 일상문화의 풍경과 변화하는 사회문화, 그리고 문화정치의 속살을 분명히 하였다. 그럼에도 정치파동으로 휘둘리는 피란수도의 발행매체들이 내장한 문화정치의 특성과 한계도 엿볼 수 있었다.

영문 초록

This article aimed to investigate the nature of cultural politics by studying the terrain of the refugee narrative corresponding to the media strategy of “Weekly Kookje” during the Korean War. By paying attention to the social criticism prepared as part of the strategy to strengthen critical journalism, I tried to reveal the specific aspects and meanings of the daily life of the refugee society. First of all, the social critique of the insider was the Bangsaseun s column and . Bangsaseun s column has a critical approach to the chaos of the refugee society by varying the characteristic short commentary. The early short review, which covered all the issues of the refugee society, showed a sharp critical spirit in the focused type, but turned to deepen the affect of anxiety. strengthened critical journalism by highlighting the other side of the problem that prevailed in the refugee society, but it was weakened by turning to and focusing on ethical issues. To that extent, the social critics of the insider writers were being swayed by the in-house editorial policy in response to the strengthened media censorship. Next, Sobaek Oh and Soun Kim were in charge of social criticism by outside writers. If Oh So-baek s two corners, , were a reportage that expanded from the poor residential environment in Busan, the capital of refugees, to job problems, was a column that dealt with the problems of the refugee society as a short critique of murder. Unlike the Bangsaseun s column, the subject was enlarged and consistent with sharp criticism. In addition, , which Kim So-woon was in charge of, presented a uniquely sentimental and critical column. Unlike Oh So-baek s column, which addressed the immediate problems of the refugee society, Kim So-woon reflected critically on norms and ethical issues. Finally, the refugee narrative of “Weekly Kookje” made it possible to microscopically examine the changing daily culture of Busan, the capital of refuge. These aspects made it clear the landscape of daily culture, the changing social culture, and the cultural politics that deeply penetrated Busan, the capital of refuge. Nevertheless, it was possible to glimpse the characteristics and limitations of cultural politics embedded in the publication media of the refugee capital, which was swayed by political fluctuations.
