도자에 표현된 연꽃 문양의 상징성과 조형성 연구

국문 초록

본 논문에서는 연꽃 문양에 대해 알아보고 우리나라 도자사에 나타난 연꽃 문양의 시대적 배경과 양상에 따른 연꽃 문양의 상징성과 조형성을 연구하고자 한다. 도자기에 표현된 연꽃문양은 시대적 변화와 종교의 영향으로 문양이 간소화되거나 다른 문양과 복합되어 표현되기도 했으며 흙의 종류와 표현기법에 따라 연꽃 문양의 상징성과 조형성이 다르게 나타났다. 고려시대에 청자는 불교의 영향을 받아서 연꽃 문양을 종교에 상징적 의미를 담아 도식화 되어 도자기에 표현 했으며 혼란기의 시대에 나타난 분청은 연꽃 문양과 기법이 순백의 백자로 가기 전 어두운 태토에 화장토를 발라 백자로 가기 위한 과정을 담아 자유분방한 연꽃문양을 도자기에 표현하였다. 그리고 조선시대 백자는 성리학의 백색미학을 담은 연꽃 문양을 회화적인 느낌으로 표현하였다. 그리고 현대 도자기는 기존 형태를 변화시키고 새롭게 디자인되고 있으며 전통도자기 기법에 기반을 두고 현대적인 감각으로 작가의 의미를 담은 연꽃 문양의 상징성과 조형성을 이용해서 현대인의 미감을 고려한 도자기를 제작하고 있다. 이처럼 도자기에 표현된 연꽃 문양은 시대적 배경과 양상, 종교, 문화, 사상 등의 영향에 따라 연꽃 문양의 상징성과 조형성도 같이 변화되어 왔다. 우리의 미의식은 개인의 주관적 아름다움 뿐 아니라 집단적으로 공유하는 정서에서 표현되기 때문에 예술 작품에 상징적 형태로서 역사와 문화, 종교가 서로 연관 되어 있다는 것을 알 수 있다.

영문 초록

In this study, we would like to learn about lotus patterns and the relationship between symbolism and sculpture of lotus patterns according to the background and pattern of the lotus patterns in Korean ceramic history. Lotus patterns expressed in pottery were simplified or combined with other patterns due to the changes of the times and religion, and the symbolism and formality of lotus patterns differed depending on the type of soil and the expression techniques. During the Goryeo Dynasty, celadon was influenced by Buddhism and painted lotus patterns with symbolic meaning to the religion, and Buncheong, which appeared in the chaotic era, expressed free-spirited lotus patterns on pottery, with lotus patterns and techniques applied to the dark soil before going to the white porcelain. During the Joseon Dynasty, white porcelain painted lotus patterns containing the white aesthetics of Neo-Confucianism. In addition, modern ceramics have changed and redesigned existing forms, and based on traditional pottery techniques, they use the symbolism and formality of lotus patterns that contain the meaning of the artist with modern senses to make pottery considering the aesthetics of modern people. As such, the symbolism and formality of lotus patterns have changed according to the background and appearance of the times, religion, culture, and ideology. Since our aesthetic sense is expressed not only in the subjective beauty of the individual but also in the collective shared sentiment, we can see that history, culture and religion are related to each other as a symbolic form of art.
