국문 초록

현대 조형예술의 표현 양식은 다양한 매체를 활용하여 보다 복합적인 양상으로 발전되고 있다. 거울은 오늘날 가장 일상적인 물건이면서도 신비롭고 창조적인 힘을 가지고 있다. 다양한 시각 매체를 다루는 현대 조형예술에서 거울은 매력적인 소재이자 모티브 중 하나로, 반사면에 표현된 이미지는 시각적 유희와 호기심을 자극하는 착시의 개념을 넘어 환영의 공간을 표현하고 현실과 가상을 매개하는 매체로 작용한다. 본 연구에서는 초현실주의의 대표적인 표현기법 중 하나인 트롱프뢰유의 의미를 현대 조형예술에서 반사 매체를 활용한 거울의 착시 효과를 통해 재해석하고자 하였다. 현대 시각 예술의 매체 변화에 따라 트롱프뢰유의 의미를 확장하는 데 목적을 두고 트롱프뢰유 기법과 반사효과를 활용한 작품들의 공통된 조형 요소를 도출하여 이를 통해 현대 조형예술의 표현 영역과 조형적 가능성을 확장하고자 하였다. 트롱프뢰유의 유형과 표현 특성에 따라 사실주의적 표현, 다시점과 이중적 이미지, 공간의 확장으로 분류하고, 반사 물질을 사용하여 물리적 현상과 착시를 강조하는 미켈란젤로 피스톨레토, 다니엘 뷔랑, 아니쉬 카푸어, 올라퍼 엘리아슨의 작품을 살펴본다. 이를 기반으로 반사효과를 활용한 현대 조형예술의 공통된 표현 특성을 세 가지, ‘사실주의적 표현에 의한 시각적 유희성’, ‘이중적 이미지에 의한 감각경험’, ‘공간의 확장에 의한 전회’로 나누어 분석하였다. 본 연구에서 탐구한 거울을 활용한 예술작품과 트롱프뢰유 기법의 표현 방식은 풍부한 해석과 가능성을 보여주며 앞으로 창의적인 조형예술의 발전에 응용되길 기대해 볼 수 있다.

영문 초록

The expressive style of contemporary art becomes more complex using various media. Mirrors are the most common objects today, but they have mysterious and creative powers. In contemporary art dealing with mixed visual media, mirrors are one of the attractive materials and motifs. The image expressed on the reflective surface goes beyond the concept of optical illusion that stimulates visual enjoyment and curiosity. It also acts as a medium to express a space of illusion and mediate reality and virtuality. This study reinterprets the meaning of trompe l oeil, one of the representative expression techniques of surrealism, through the optical illusion effect of a mirror using a reflective medium in contemporary art. The common formative elements of works were derived to expand the meaning of trompe l oeil following the changes in the medium of modern visual art. We extend the expressive area and possibilities of contemporary art through this. According to the type and expression characteristics of trompe l oeil, it is classified into realistic expressions, multi-views and dual images, and spatial expansion. It also examines the works of Michelangelo Pistoletto, Daniel Buren, Anish Kapoor, and Olafur Eliasson, who use reflective materials to emphasize physical phenomena and optical illusions. Based on this, the common expression characteristics of contemporary art using reflective effects are divided into three categories: visual enjoyment through realistic expressions, sensory experience by dual images, and return by an expansion of space. The works of art using mirrors and the expression method of the trompe l oeil technique explored in this study show rich interpretations and possibilities, and they are expected to contribute to the development of creative arts.
