묵자의 義利와 兼愛사상이 갖는 교육철학적 가치

국문 초록

학교 교육 현장이나 우리들 삶의 현장 속에서 타인과의 관계는 필연적이다. 타인과의 관계는 협력과 갈등 속에서 주로 이루어지는데 대개의 경우에는 갈등을 피하고자 한다. 그러나 타자와의 갈등 속에서 타자에 대한 이해뿐만 아니라 우리의 주체성도 성립할 수 있다. 타자와의 갈등 상황을 어떻게 인식하고 해결할지에 대한 보다 근본적인 논의가 필요하다. 이런 문제 인식을 묵자의 義利사상과 兼愛사상을 통해 교육철학적 의미로 고찰하였다. 묵자의 사상은 자신을 포함한 타자의 이익을 모두 고려한 시도이며 이런 이익 추구의 밑바탕은 사랑이라고 할 수 있다. 묵자는 義利와 兼愛를 통해 타자와의 화합과 상생이 가능하다고 주장하며 타인과의 상호관계에서 利의 분배를 정당화한다. 본고는 소통과 갈등의 문제가 義利와 깊은 연관성이 있다고 보고, 이 義利가 兼愛를 바탕으로 타자와의 소통과 갈등을 해소시킬 수 있다는 근거를 찾고자 하였다. 이를 위해 먼저 ‘이기’와 ‘이타’ 개념에 대해 고찰하고 다음으로 묵자가 말한 義利의 개념에 대하여 살펴보았다. 그리고 맹자와 묵자가 추구한 ‘義’의 차이점과 공자의 仁과 묵자의 兼愛사상을 비교 분석해 보았다. 도덕은 모두가 행복하기 위해서 필요한 것이며, 묵자는 이러한 도덕의 실현방안을 利에서 찾고 있다. 墨子 사상의 중심을 이루고 있는 兼愛 사상은 유가 사상의 차별적 사랑인 仁을 극복하고자 한 또 다른 형태의 사랑이라고 할 수 있다. 물론 仁을 ‘사랑’이라는 형태로 고착화시킬 수는 없지만, 묵자가 겸애를 통해 이루고자 한 화합과 상생의 상호관계를 이해하기 쉽도록 유가의 ‘仁’과 ‘친친’이라는 부분적인 면만을 취하여 설명하고자 하였다. 이 점은 ‘仁’의 국소적인 면만 부각한 본고의 한계점이기도 하다. 묵자는 유가가 주장한 ‘친친’의 관계를 넘어서서 모든 타자들과의 관계까지 확장시켜 교육철학적 가치를 보여주고 있다. 타자와의 갈등 상황을 해결하고자 할 때 본인을 포함하여 모든 타자들의 이로움에 호소해야 할 것이며 물론 이의 전제에는 ‘겸애’라는 사랑이 있어야 할 것이다.

영문 초록

Relationships with others are inevitable in school education or the field of our lives. Relationships with others are usually made through cooperation and conflict, and in most cases, conflict is avoided. However, in the conflict with the other, our understanding of the other and our subjectivity can be established. A more fundamental discussion is needed on recognising and resolving conflict situations with others. This recognition of this problem was considered in the educational philosophical meaning through Mozi’s Justice and utility(義利) and Universal love(兼愛) ideology. Mozi’s ideology is an attempt that considers all interests of others, including himself, and the basis of this pursuit of interest can be said to be love. Mozi argues that harmony and coexistence with others are possible through Justice and utility(義利) and Universal love(兼愛), and justifies the distribution of wealth in mutual relationships with others. This article investigates that the problem of communication and conflict is deeply related to justice and tries to find the basis for this justice to resolve communication and conflict with others based on virtue. To this end, the concepts of ‘selfishness’ and ‘altruism’ were considered first, and then the concept of Justice and utility(義利) spoken by Mozi was examined. In addition, the difference between the ‘Justice(義)’ pursued by Mencius and Mozi and the ideology of 仁(Benevolence) of Confucius and the thought of Universal love(兼愛) of Mozi were analysed and compared. Morality is necessary for everyone to be happy, and Mozi is looking for ways to realise this morality from the Utility(利). The 兼愛(Universal love) ideology, which forms the centre of the Mozi ideology, can be said to be another form of love that seeks to overcome the discriminatory love of Confucianism, 仁(Benevolence). Of course, 仁(Benevolence) cannot be fixed in the form of ‘love’, but in order to make it easier to understand the interrelationship of harmony and coexistence that Mozi sought to achieve through modesty, I would like to explain by taking only the partial aspects of ‘仁(Benevolence)’ and ‘Chin-Chin(親親)’ of Confucianism. This point is also a limitation of this article, which emphasizes only the local aspect of ‘仁 (Benevolence)’. Mozi shows educational philosophical value by extending the relationship with all others beyond the ‘Chin-Chin(親親)’ relationship as claimed by Confucianism. When trying to resolve conflicts with others, you must appeal to the benefits of all others, including yourself, and of course, the premise of this should be the love of ‘humility’.
