題畵詩의 미학적 특징과 구현 원리

국문 초록

그림을 제재로 삼아 창작되는 제화시의 미학적 특징은 ‘그림과 한시의 상호 결합’이라는 방식에서 구현된다. 그 원리는 매체로서의 그림이 지니는 한계를 보충하는 방식이라 할 수 있는데, 크게 다음의 세 가지로 나누어 살펴볼 수 있다. 첫째, 그림의 구성 내용[畵面]이 지니는 시각 심상을 시인의 감상 방법에 따라 언어로 재현하는 제화시가 존재한다. 또한 그림이 표현하지 못하는 청각·후각 등의 감각 심상을 이용하여 그림에 대한 감상과 해석에 도움을 주기도 한다. 둘째, ‘서사’의 기법을 통해 시간의 흐름에 따른 ‘사건’을 형상화한다. 그 결과 ‘화폭’이라는 제한된 공간에 정지된 화면을 그릴 수밖에 없는 그림의 한계를 보완할 수 있게 된다. 셋째, 색·형태·구성·질감 등으로 표현되는 그림의 주제가 명료하고 보편적인 의미를 지니는 언어 명제로 치환되도록 돕는다. 뿐만 아니라 畵意를 재해석하여 그림과 한시 모두에 보다 함축적인 미감을 불어넣기도 한다. 물론 제화시의 미학적 특징과 그 구현 원리는 이상의 세 가지보다 훨씬 복잡하고 다양할 것이다. 위에서 제시한 특징과 원리들이 한 편의 작품에서 복합적으로 결합된다는 점에도 주의해야 할 것이다.

영문 초록

Aesthetic characteristics of Jehwasi[題畵詩, Sino-Korean poetry about painting] created based on painting are realized through mutual combination between painting and poem. The principles as methodology of making up for limitations of painting can be looked at in the following three aspects. First, Jehwasi depends upon a poet s method of appreciating visual imagery provided by constituent contents of a painting. In fact, Jehwasi helps people appreciate or interpret a painting using sensory imagery including senses of hearing, smell, etc. which cannot be expressed in the form of painting. Second, Jehwasi gives shape to events according to the flow of time through narrative . As a consequence, it can supplement limitations of a painting which has no other way than to draw stationary contents in limited space called canvas . Third, Jehwasi makes it possible that themes of a painting expressed by means of color, shape, composition, texture, etc. can be turned into linguistic theses with articulate and universal meanings. Furthermore, Jehwasi gives aesthetic connotations to both painting and poem by reinterpreting the theme of a painting. Of course, aesthetic characteristics of Jehwasi and its realization principles might be more complex than three aspects above. We should also note that characteristics and principles mentioned above can be combined in a complex way even in a piece of poem.
