우리나라 옛 문헌 소재 한라산 인식

국문 초록

우리 역사에서 ‘한라산’이 언제 처음 등장하는지 궁금하다. 삼국시대 포함, 고려 이전까지는 제주를 耽羅國이라는 ‘외국’으로 인식했기 때문에 한라산에 대한 기록은 찾기 힘들다. 『삼국사기』, 『삼국유사』, 『고려사절요』에는 한라산 용례가 없고, 『고려사』에 처음 등장한다. 1374년(공민왕 23) 최영 장군의 목호 평정 때, ‘漢拏山’ 호칭이 처음 등장하고, 李穡의 『목은시고』에도 ‘한라산’ 용례가 확인된다. 결국 1374년 이전에 ‘한라산’은 이미 호칭 되고 있었으며, 여말선초부터는 다수의 한라산 용례가 출현한다. 본고는 우리나라 옛 문헌에 등장하는 한라산의 용례를 파악하고 그에 대한 분석 및 선인들의 한라산 인식을 밝혔다. 『조선왕조실록』, 『승정원일기』, 『연려실기술』, 『신증동국여지승람』, 『탐라지』(이원진) 등 총 21종의 조선 시대 옛 문헌에서 총 154회의 한라산 용례를 수집하였다. 기사 내용은 漢拏山祭 관련(62회), 老人星과 한라산의 연계성(18회), 한라산 사면의 목장 축조 및 馬 방목(14회), 한라산 별칭 소개(14회) 등이 주류였다. 한라산에 대한 인식은 첫째 우리나라 名山, 둘째 섬 내외 지리적 표지점의 기준, 셋째 주요 경관(노인성 및 중국 강남 관측 등) 조망 지점, 넷째 마 방목 및 목장 소재라는 사실이 주류였다. 본고는 개인 문집에 수록된 한라산 용례 및 詩文 등은 제외하였다. 향후 후학들의 연구 성과가 이어지길 기대한다. 하지만 우리 옛 문헌에 수록된 한라산 용례 전수조사 및 그에 대한 분석, 당시의 인식 규명 등은 본고가 그 첫 장을 열었다고 의미를 부여할 수 있겠다. 조선 시대 한라산 문헌 연구의 토대를 마련한 점이 본고의 의의이다.

영문 초록

When did the name of Mt.Halla first appear in our history? It is hard to find records about Mt.Halla because Jeju was recognized as a foreign cuountry-TamnaGuk(耽羅國) before Goryo Dynasty including Three Kingdoms Period. There are no examples of Mt.Halla in ｢Samguksagi｣, ｢Samgukjusa｣, ｢Goryosajeolyo｣ but it first appeared in ｢Goryosa｣. The name of Mt.Halla first showed up in 1374(King Gongmin 23), the period of suppression of Mokho(牧胡) by General Choe Yeong(崔瑩). Also the example of Mt.Halla is confirmed in ｢Mokeonsigo｣ by Lee Saek(李穡). In conclusion Mt.Halla was already addressed before 1374 and a number of examples of Mt.Halla appeared in the end of the Goryo Dynasty and the Early Years of the Chosun Dynasty. This paper figures out and analyzes the examples of Mt.Halla in Korean ancient literature. Thus it clears the recognition of our ancestors. The total 154 examples of Mt.Halla are collected in 21 kinds of ancient literature in Chosun Dynasty such as ｢Annals of Chosun Dynasty｣, ｢Seoungjeongwon Diary｣, ｢Yeolyeosilgisul｣, ｢Sinjeungdongukyeojiseungnam｣. The articles on Mt.Halla in the books mainly contain the rituals of Mt.Halla(62), the connectivity of Canopus(老人星) and Mt.Halla(18), farm construction and horse grazing on every side of Mt.Halla(14) and the introduction of nicknames of Mt.Halla(14). The main perceptions of Mt.Halla are as follows; firstly, the famous mountain in our country, secondly, the standard of geographical indication both on the outside and inside of Jeju island, thirdly, viewing point of main landscapes(the observation of Canopus and Gangnam in China), lastly, horse grazing and farm site. This paper excludes the examples of Mt.Halla and literatures in private anthologies. Future scholars are expected to get result of research on them. This paper opens the door to total inspection and analysis on the examples of Mt.Halla and the investigation of the perception of Mt.Halla at that time. The meaning of this paper forms the basis of literature research of Mt.Halla in Chosun Dynasty.
