국문 초록

<돌부처 눈붉어지면 침몰하는 마을> 설화는 돌부처의 눈에 피가 나면 마을이 망한다는 예언을 믿지 않는 마을 사람들이 몰락하게 되는 설화이다. 예언은 개인의 문제에 그치는 것이 아니라 마을공동체의 몰락을 초래하는 중요한 문제가 된다. 인간의 욕심과 이기심으로 하나의 마을공동체가 사라지는 설화는 마을이 몰락하게 되는 이유와 마을공동체 구성원이 함께 공생할 수 없는 이유를 설명해 준다. 마을의 노인은 마을 사람들과 예언을 공유하여 함께 공생하고자 하지만 마을 사람들은 비합리적이고 비논리적인 예언을 받아들이지 않고 노인을 비웃는다. 이들의 예언에 대한 상반된 태도는 욕심 많고 인심이 사나운 마을 사람들의 악행에 대한 징벌과 연결된다. 비록 돌부처의 눈에 피가 나는 일은 일어날 수 없는 비현실적인 일이지만 돌부처를 통해 인간의 이기심과 악행을 신적인 존재 또는 자연이 인간에게 재난을 내리는 매개체로 인식하게 된다. 특히 이 설화를 단순히 권선징악의 이야기로만 파악할 수 없는 이유는 이 유형 설화가 서해안 지역을 중심으로 전승되면서 바다 해일로 마을이 몰락하는 이유를 설명하는 성격을 지니고 있기 때문이다. 그리고 새로운 마을 구성원과 갈등을 빚으면서 공생하지 못하면서 외부인을 바라보는 내부공동체의 시선을 파악할 수 있다는 점에서 다양한 의미를 살펴볼 수 있다. 따라서 선과 악의 문제로 설화를 단순하게 이해하기보다는 마을공동체의 몰락을 설명하는 설화라는 특징에 주목하여 살펴볼 수 있을 것이다. 인간의 이기심이 초래하는 몰락이 삶의 터전을 잃게 하는 것뿐만 아니라 마을공동체의 공생의 문제와 연결될 수 있음을 설화를 통해 찾아볼 수 있다. 공동체와 공동체 간의 갈등과 소통의 문제를 살펴보아 이 유형 설화가 가지는 의미를 넓은 의미에서 이해할 필요가 있을 것이다.

영문 초록

The tale of is a tale that the villagers who do not believe the prophecy that if the eyes of the stone Buddha bleed, the village will collapse. Prophecies are not just personal problems, but important issues that lead to the fall of the village community. The story of a village community disappearing due to human greed and selfishness explains why the village is collapsing and why members of the village community cannot coexist together. The elderly in the village share the prophecy with the villagers to co-exist, but the villagers do not accept irrational and illogical predictions and accept the conflicting attitudes of laughing at the elderly. In particular, their conflicting attitudes toward prophecy are linked to punishment for the evil deeds of greedy and hard-hearted villagers. Although it is unrealistic that blood in the eyes of stone Buddha can not happen, it is through stone Buddha that human selfishness and evil acts become divine beings or natural beings are the medium for causing disaster to humans. In particular, the reason why this story cannot be identified simply as a story of Kwon Seon-jeok is that it explains why the village collapsed due to the sea tidal waves as this type of story is passed on around the west coast. In addition, various meanings can be seen in that they can understand the internal community s view of outsiders because they cannot coexist due to conflicts with new village members. Therefore, rather than simply understanding the narrative as a matter of good and evil, it is necessary to look at the issues of conflict and communication between communities and communities to understand the meaning of this type of narrative in a broad sense.
