｢금강중용도가｣에 표출된 정서 양상과 창작 동인

국문 초록

조선 순조대에 김이익이 지은 ｢금강중용도가｣는 유배라는 지난한 상황 속에서 느낀 감정이 곡진하게 표현된 작품이다. 이 논문은 ｢금강중용도가｣에 드러난 주요 정서를 ‘서러움’과 ‘체념’, ‘감은’으로 포착하고, 그와 같은 정서가 표출된 이유와 작품 창작에 미친 영향을 검토한 것이다. ｢금강중용도가｣에 드러난 ‘서러움’의 정서는 원통하고 슬퍼하는 심정으로, 이는 자책과 좌절의 원인이 되어 ‘체념’하게 하여 작품을 부정적이고 비극적인 분위기에 함몰시킨다. 그러나 선군인 정조가 베풀어준 사랑에 대한 ‘감은’하는 마음은 이러한 정서들을 극복하고 극적인 반전을 이끈다. 즉, 정조의 죽음과 ‘기군’이라는 죄명으로 유배자가 된 상황에 대한 원통함은 유배로 인한 선군과의 물리적ㆍ심리적인 이별과 그리움으로 슬픔에 젖게 하고, 슬픔은 왕의 은혜를 배반했다는 자책이 되어 시름하게 했으며, 자책은 모든 것을 포기하는 처절한 좌절로 전이되었다. 그러나 선군의 은혜에 감사하는 감은의 정서는 이런 감정들을 해소하고 충성스런 신하로 갱생하는 삶을 이끌어내는 근원적인 힘이 된다. 그런 점에서 작품에 보이는 작자의 대표적인 정서는 극한의 원통함이나 슬픔, 자책, 좌절 등이 아니라, 이런 정서를 극복하고 작품을 긍정적인 결말로 이끈 감은에 있음을 알 수 있다. 따라서 ‘先君舊恩 感泣不忘’이라는 인식에서 배태된 감은의 정서는 역경 속에서도 선군을 찬양하는 ｢금강중용도가｣를 창작케 하는 동인일 뿐 아니라, 변치 않는 충성심의 발로가 되어 도통 전승 과정이나 ｢금강중용도｣ 해설에 이르기까지 ｢금강중용도가｣의 모든 내용을 선군에 대한 찬양으로 일관하게 했다. 그래서 작자가 유배지에서 이 작품을 향유하며 견뎌냈다는 <서>의 언급은 선군을 찬양하며 그에 대한 기억을 소중히 간직하는 지속적인 충성의 행위를 수행했다는 의미를 내포하고 있음을 알게 한다. ｢금강중용도가｣는 김이익이 유배된 후 비교적 이른 시기에 작품을 지어졌기 때문에 표현된 情操는 비유적이거나 여과됨이 없이 직설적이고 사실적이며, 다양한 정서들이 순차적으로 배열되어 있지 않고 혼재되어 있어 작품에 긴장감과 역동성을 더해준다는 특징을 지니고 있다. 그리고 ｢금강중용도가｣가 단지 유배자로서의 서러움과 체념의 소회만 표출했다면 범상한 작품에 지나지 않았을 것이나, 이를 감은의 정서로 극복하고 그 과정을 유려하게 표현했다는 점에서 18세기 유배가사로서 높은 수준의 작품으로 평가할 수 있다.

영문 초록

Kim Yi-ik, an author, was exiled to a remote island on the charge of cheating the king in the Joseon Dynasty’s King Soonjo Era. is a work straightforwardly and candidly expresses the author s emotions in a special situation of exile. This thesis was attempted to enhance understanding of the work by grasping the changing patterns and meanings of emotions revealed in works that have not been noticed so far. The sentiment flowing at the base of started from the resentment formed by the situation of King Jeongjo s death and the resulting exile. And the resentment extended to sorrow, the sorrow tormented the author with the self-blame that he had not died after the king, and the self-blame was transferred to a terrible frustration that caused him to give up everything. However, these emotions face a dramatic reversal, which is resolved with gratitude for the grace of the previous king. So, the typical emotions shown in the work are not the resentment, sorrow, self-blame, or frustration, but the gratitude for the previous king that led them to a positive ending. The emotion of gratitude reversed the atmosphere of the work and made “Kuemgangchongyongdoga” to be evaluated as a work with high dignity and completeness. He realized the will of the previous king to discipline himself so that he could overcome the ordeal of exile. It was an academic research, and it was a way of loyalty that he could do in exile. Therefore, he created with unchanging loyalty and gratitude to the previous king, and his enjoyment of this work became an act of loyalty to cherish the memories of the previous king, and he was able to endure the extreme situation of exile. I hope that this paper can contribute to deeper appreciation and understanding by expanding the consensus on the author s emotions revealed in the work.
