국문 초록

본 연구의 목적은 배우자 사별 여성 노인의 다차원적 사회적 배제 유형을 살펴보고, 이에 따른 우울에 미치는 영향을 규명하는 것이다. 이를 위하여 7차년도 여성가족패널조사 자료를 활용하여, 총 502명의 만 65세 이상 배우자 사별 여성 노인을 대상으로 잠재계층분석 및 위계적 회귀 분석을 실시하였다. 노년기 다차원적 사회적 배제 측정을 위한 프레임워크를 기반으로 국내 다양한 노인 관련 사회적 배제 지표를 반영하여 총 9개의 사회적 배제 지표 패턴을 살펴본 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 일부 지표에서 다수의 배우자 사별 여성 노인의 배제가 심각한 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 잠재계층분석을 실시한 결과, 저배제형, 소득･직업배제형 및 다중배제형의 세 가지 유형이 도출되었다. 셋째, 저배제형을 기준집단으로 사회적 배제 잠재계층 유형이 우울에 미치는 영향을 살펴본 결과, 다중배제형에 속할수록 우울의 수준이 높은 것으로 나타났다. 연구결과를 바탕으로 배우자 사별 여성 노인의 사회적 배제를 다차원적으로 접근함으로써 이로 인한 우울 수준을 낮추고, 주체적인 삶을 영위할 수 있도록 법･제도적, 실천적 방안을 제시하였다.

영문 초록

This study aims to examine the multidimensional social exclusion of older widows. Older women in Korea have suffered from marginalization in the labor market caused by gender division of paid and unpaid labor; as a result, they are often not entitled to public pension, which is related to employment histories. Therefore, after the death of a spouse, older widows are likely to face poverty and discrimination due to difficulties regarding economic and social independence. This study used data from the 7th Korean Longitudinal Survey of Women & Families (KLoWF). A total of 502 older widows(aged 65+) were analyzed. The results of this study are as follows. First, three latent classes of social exclusion were selected using the latent class analysis; the low exclusion class, the income and job exclusion class and the multiple exclusion class. Examining depression by class revealed that there was no significant difference between the income and job exclusion class and the low exclusion class, whereas the multiple exclusion class experienced significantly more severe depression. This study showed that there was no non-exclusion class among older widows in Korea. Older adults, who are particularly vulnerable to social exclusion, may become even more vulnerable when they are women and when they have lost a spouse. This study highlighted the importance of ameliorating social exclusion to improve the quality of life of older widows.
