국문 초록

진행성 근이양증, 암, 낭포성 섬유증과 같이 이른바 생명을 위협하는 진행성 질병이 있는 아동과 청소년들의 학교교육은 미래의 자기실현을 위한 준비보다 현재의 문제극복이 당면과제가 된다는 점에서 학교교육에 전혀 새로운 과제를 안겨주고 있다. 또한 그들의 실존적 상황은 이제까지 특수교육이나 일반교육에서 애써 외면해온 죽음, 애도와 같은 문제들을 교육현장에서 다룰 것을 촉구하고 있다. 이에 본 연구에서는 교사가 진행성 질병이 있는 학생의 학교생활을 지원하기 위한 전제조건이 되는 그들의 심리사회적 상황을 조망해보고, 그에 따라 교사에게 요구되는 과제는 무엇인지를 고찰하였다. 진행성 질병이 있는 학생들은 더 이상 좋아지지 않는 자신의 신체적 상태와 그것이 몰고 올 위험을 확연하게 감지하고 있지만 이에 대한 감정을 정리하고 소통하는데 도움이 될만한 사람을 발견하지 못하고 침묵 속에서 혼란과 고립을 견디고 있는 상황이다. 교사가 아동과 청소년이 직면한 병이나 제한된 그들의 삶의 과정을 동행하려면 무엇보다도 교사 스스로 병이나 죽음과의 대면이 필요하다. 이는 또한 교사교육과정의 변화를 요구한다.

영문 초록

Students who have terminal illness are confronted with various challenges from intolerable situations of their daily life. In addition, they have to cope with a variety of difficulties from disease proceeding. Besides, their existential situations are stimulating our attention to deal with death and mourning that matters little in School. In this study, we consider the student s psycho-social situation which should be a precondition of supporting school activities for teachers and tasks which are indispensable for teachers who want to support the students. Although students with terminal illness recognize that their persistent physical state and dangers, they could not find partners who help to communicate and reorganize their emotions. Of all things, if teachers want to support students with terminal illness, they should be faced with illness and death by themselves indeed. Through this process, they have to change their essential perception for illness, dying and death.
