한국 고대 목간의 용도와 형태 분류

국문 초록

고대 한국의 목간은 현재까지 신라와 백제의 유적에서 600여 점 정도가 출토되었다. 이 글에서는 전체 목간의 용도와 형태를 정리하면서 분류체계를 제시하였다. 이들 목간은 형태상으로 장방판형, 다면형, 원주형, 홈형, 기타의 목간으로 제작되어 사용되었으며, 용도는 크게 文書목간, 꼬리표[附札]목간, 기타 목간으로 구분할 수 있다. 다시 문서목간은 문서의 발신과 수신이 확인되는 좁은 의미의 문서목간과, 帳簿･集計･傳票･考課 등의 기록목간으로 분류된다. 꼬리표목간은 이동하는 세금이나 공진물에 부착된 짐꼬리표[荷札]와 물품의 보관에 사용된 물품꼬리표[物品附札]로 나눌 수 있다. 기타 용도로는 呪術･儀禮, 典籍(論語), 글자 연습용, 명함, 구구단 목간 등의 사용이 확인된다. 목간을 재활용하기 위해 사용된 목간의 표면을 깎은 부스러기도 발견되었다. 이 과정에서 문서목간은 장방판형, 다면형, 원주형 목간들이 이용되었고, 꼬리표목간은 홈형 목간이 사용되었다. 기타 용도의 목간들은 그 용도에 부합하는 다양한 형태로 제작되어 사용되었다. 특히 좁은 의미의 문서목간은 주로 다면(원주)형 목간이 사용되었고, 기록목간은 장방판형 목간이 사용되었음을 알 수 있었다. 신라의 꼬리표 목간은 주로 아래쪽에 홈을 새겼고, 백제의 꼬리표 목간은 위쪽에 홈을 새겨서 사용한 사실이 확인된다. 이러한 경향은 통일 이후 위쪽에 홈을 새긴 꼬리표 목간으로 변화한다. 기본적으로 목간의 제작과 사용은 그 용도에 부합하는 형태가 채택되어 사용되었다고 보인다.

영문 초록

In Korea, approximately 600 wooden ancient tables have been excavated in relics of Silla and Baekje. This study set out to propose a classification system by sorting out the entire ancient wooden tablets of Korea by the use and form. The wooden tablets were made in the forms of rectangular plate, multisided, circumferential, groove, and other types. Their uses mainly include documents, receipts, and others. Wooden tablets for documents are further divided into wooden tablets as documents whose transmission and reception can be checked in a narrow sense and wooden tablets as records including ledgers, accumulations, statements, and evaluations of merits. Wooden tablets for receipts can be divided into wooden tablets for receipts of tributary payments or taxes and wooden tablets for receipts of goods used to store goods. Other uses included incantations and ceremonies, Jeonjeok (Analects of Confucius), practice of writing letters, business cards, and multiplication table. Fragments were also found which were from the planing of wooden tablets on the surface for recycling. In this process, wooden tablets of rectangular plate, multisided, and circumferential types were used for documents, and those of groove type were used for receipts. Wooden tablets of other uses were made and used in various forms that would suit their uses. Basically, the production and use of wooden tablets was based on the selection and use of forms that would suit their uses.
