국문 초록

이 논문은 초대 교회 사막 교부인 안토니오스와 에바그리오스의 수도원적 가난 이해와 장공 김재준의 청빈 이해를 비교한다. 그들의 청빈이해를 살펴보기 위해서 아타나시우스가 쓴 『안토니오스의 생애』(Vita Antonii)와 에바그리오스의 『프락티코스』(Praktikos) 그리고 김재준의 『범용기』를 분석할 것이다. 안토니오스와 에바그리오스가 주장하는 청빈은 자발적으로 부를 포기하고 가난하게 생활하는 것만은 아니다. 진정한 청빈은 수도 생활의 궁극적 목표인 하나님 형상의 회복, 아파테이아(apatheia) 의 달성, 하나님과 이웃에 대한 온전한 사랑을 이루기 위한 모든 과정을 말한다. 김재준의 청빈 이해는 시간과 공간의 차이에도 불구하고 사막 교부와 비슷하다. 청빈이란 단순하고 소박한 삶과 더불어 내적 정화와 하나님의 형상 회복, 즉 얽매인 모든 것으로부터 자유로운 온전한 인간성을 회복하는 모든 과정이다. 초대 교회 사막 교부들과 김재준의 청빈 사상은 서로 다른 차이도 보인다. 사막 교부들은 철저한 부의 포기와 가난을 계속 강조한다. 반면에 김재준은 세상을 떠난 수도사가 아니었다. 그는 세상 한가운데 살면서 청빈 전통을 실천했다. 김재준은 생계 유지를 위해 돈을 모으고, 저축하는 것을 인정한다. 사막 교부들은 내적 청빈인 ‘악한 생각’과 싸우고, 극복하는 방법에 많은 관심을 보였다. 김재준은 인간의 참 자유를 이루고자 한국 교회와 사회 안에 있는 구조악과 싸우는 일에 평생 관심을 보였다. 사막 교부들과 김재준의 청빈 사상을 비교하는 연구는 한국 교회에서 발전한 수도원적 청빈 전통의 한 흐름을 보여 준다. 코로나19로 큰 위기를 맞이한 한국 교회가 기억하고 나아가야 할 방향이기도 하다.

영문 초록

The aim of this article is to deal with the similarities and differences between the poverty of Early Christian Desert Fathers (Antony of Egypt and Evagrius of Pontus) and Kim, Jae Jun. In order to analyze their understanding of poverty, the article focuses on Vita Antonii of Athanasius, Praktikos of Evagrius, and Kim, Jae Jun’s autobiography, 범용기. The works are regarded as important primary sources, which help us understand the significance of poverty and its theological meaning.Antony of Vita Antonii and Evagrius do not claim that poverty is the ultimate purpose of monastic life. Monastic poverty is not only the beginning of a spiritual journey, but a continuous process toward the monastic goal (restoring the image of God, attaining apatheia, and keeping in the love of God and neighbor). Even though they have differences in time and space, the poverty of Jae Jun Kim reflected in 범용기 is similar to that of the Desert Fathers. Poverty is necessary for attaining inner purification and restoring the image of God, that is, the perfect freedom of human beings.However, as monks, Antonios and Evagrios strongly advise against falling into avarice. They are interested in describing how to overcome inner desires. Unlike the Desert Fathers, Jae Jun Kim is not a monk, but attempts to practice the tradition of monastic poverty in the midst of the world. Thus, he allows Christians to save money for a minimal living. Rather than explaining inner purification, Jae Jun Kim has a great interest in creating “a cosmic love community” which frees human beings by fighting social structural evils on the basis of the purity.
