국문 초록

현대 정치신학은 마틴 루터(Martin Luther, 1483-1546)를 국가 권력에 지나치게 타협적인 신학자로 보는 비판적 입장에 동의해 왔다. 특별히 루터의 두 정부론은 교회의 사회적 책임을 무력화 시키는 이론으로 비판되어 왔다. 한편 디트리히 본회퍼(Dietrich Bonhoeffer, 1906-1945)를 국가 권력에 맞서는 기독교 공공 윤리를 확립한 대표적인 정치 신학자로 보는 데 이견이 없다. 여기에 본회퍼 신학의 해석의 난점이 있다. 현대정치신학자들은 루터와 본회퍼의 신학을 불연속적 관계로 파악한다. 그러나 루터 신학의 계승자인 본회퍼는 그의 신학을 철저히 전통적인 루터신학 위에 세웠다는 점에서 루터와 본회퍼를 불연속적 관계로 보는 것은 문제이다. 이 글은 마틴 루터의 두 정부론에 대한 본회퍼의 수용과 해석을 다룬다. 본회퍼는 루터의 신학을 자신의 정치적 신학의 이론적 토대로 해석하였음을 논증하고 둘 사이의 연속성을 해명한다. 또한 나치 독재 권력 하에서 국가에 대한 교회의 저항과 복종의 문제를 두 정부론에 대한 독창적 해석으로 제시하였던 본회퍼의 기독교 사회 윤리가 오늘 우리의 상황에서 국가와 교회, 법과 신앙 사이의 관계를 정립하는 데 어떤 해법을 제안할 수 있는지를 살펴본다.

영문 초록

Modern political theology has agreed with the critical position that Martin Luther (1483-1546) and his theology was an overly compromised theologian with regard to state power. In particular, Luther’s Two Kingdoms theory has been criticized as an approach that neutralizes the social responsibility of the church. Meanwhile, there is agreement that Dietrich Bonhoeffer (1906-1945) was a exemplary political theologian who established Christian public ethics against state power. Here is the difficulty in interpreting Bonhoeffer’s theology: Modern political theologians seeBonhoeffer’s theology as a discontinuation of Luther’s. However, it is a problem to understand the theologies of Luther and Bonhoeffer as unconnected. Indeed, Bonhoeffer is inherited Luther’s theology and built his theology thoroughly upon the traditional Lutheran theology. This paper deals with Bonhoeffer’s acceptance and interpretation of Martin Luther’s two government theory, and argues that Bonhoeffer interpreted Luther’s theology as the theoretical basis for his political theology. It further clarifies the continuity between the two. Also, this article figures out what solutions Bonhoeffer’s Christian social ethics, which presented the issue of the church’s resistance and obedience to the state under the Nazi dictatorship as an original interpretation of Two Kingdoms, can suggest for establishing the relationship between state and church, law and faith in our context.
