국문 초록

본 연구는 코로나19 위기동안 장애인 활동가가 겪은 자가격리 및 대응활동의 경험을 탐색한다. 단일 질적 사례연구로서 감염병 재난 상황에서 장애인 당사자가 위기를 몸으로 감각하고 대응해 나가는 경험을 복합적 체화(Theory of Complex Embodiment) 관점으로 분석하여 장애를 지닌 몸이 ‘어떻게’ 지금의 감염병 위기를 감각하고 있으며, ‘왜’ 그렇게 경험하는지 설명한다. 연구 참여자의 자가격리 경험은 ‘나를 제외한 ‘K-방역’’, ‘불안과 혼돈을 헤쳐 가는 몸’, ‘‘대중의 몸’ 되기’라는 주제로 나타났으며, 손상과 장애, 사적 영역과 공적 영역, 과거와 현재의 경계를 넘나들며 복합적으로 형성되었다. 결과적으로 연구 참여자의 몸은 자연스럽게 ‘누가 인간을 규정하고 설명할 것인가’를 둘러싼 각축장이 되었다. 본 연구는 적절한 방역을 위해서는 현재의 국가 방역 시스템이 가정하는 표준적인 몸을 ‘장애’를 고려하여 보다 현실적이고 유연하게 설정할 필요가 있으며, 몸을 둘러싼 사회구조와 문화적 맥락을 고려하여야 하고, 장애인을 ‘돌봄의 대상’이나 ‘취약계층’과 같은 수동적 대상이 아니라 능동적인 방역 관리 주체이자 시민으로 인정하여야 한다고 제언한다.

영문 초록

This study explores the experience of self-quarantine and response by disabled activist during the COVID-19 crisis. The study analyzes the experience of disabled people in the event of an pandemic by sensing and responding to crises with their bodies from a Theory of Complex Embodiment perspective. It explains how the body with a disability feels the current crisis and why it experiences it so. The study participants experience with self-quarantine was shown under the themes of ‘‘K-quarantine’ except me’, ‘body that goes through anxiety and chaos’ and ‘becoming a ‘public body’’. The experience of study participants was combined with impairment and disability, private and public domains, and the boundaries between the past and the present, interacting with each other. As a result, the body of participants became the arena around ‘who will define and explain human beings’. This suggests three things. For proper prevention, it is suggested that the standard body assumed by the current national quarantine system be set more realistic and flexible in consideration of ‘disability’, that the social structure and cultural context surrounding the body be taken into account, and that the disabled be recognized as active quarantine management entities and citizens, not as passive targets.
