시청각장애인의 장애 정체성 형성에 관한 연구

국문 초록

본 연구는 시청각장애인 관련 법안을 준비하는 토론회에 참여하고 있는 시청각장애인의 장애 정체성 형성과정을 사례연구 방법으로 연구하였다. 이를 위하여 토론회의 전 과정에 참석한 2명의 시청각장애인을 대상으로 일대일 심층 면접을 실시하였다. 인터뷰한 내용을 전사하였고, 이외에도 토론회 속기록, 신문 기사를 통해 자료를 수집하였다. 지속적 비교 분석을 실시하였으며, 연구 결과 총 41개의 하위개념과 9개의 소주제, 그리고 4개의 중심주제가 나타났다. 구체적으로 ‘너무 답답한 시청각장애인의 삶’, ‘더 이상 농인이 아닌 이질적인 사람’, ‘공감과 자각의 기회를 가짐’, ‘시청각장애로 인정받고 싶은 나의 장애’로 나타났다. 이러한 결과를 바탕으로 장애 정체성은 시청각장애 상태에 대해 체념하고 있다가, 토론회를 통해 집단소속감을 가지고 시민권을 주장하며, 시청각장애인으로서 가치를 인정받고자 하는 것으로 형성되었음을 확인했다. 또한 시각장애와 청각장애를 복합적으로 가진 사람을 시청각장애인이라는 명칭으로 호명되어야 하며, 시청각장애인을 지원하기 위한 의사소통 지원자의 양성과 배치, 시청각장애인의 자조 집단 지원, 시청각장애인이 장애 유형으로 인정되고, 지원 체계가 마련된 법률이 제정되어야 함을 제언하였다.

영문 초록

This paper identified the process of forming disability identities of Deaf-Blind who participated in the debate preparing a bill related to the Deaf-Blind by a case study method. To this end, in-depth one-on-one interview was conducted with two audio-visual impaired persons who participated in the entire discussion session. The interviewed contents were transcribed, and other materials were collected through records and newspaper articles. As a result, a total of 41 sub-concepts, 9 sub-themes, and 4 main topics were revealed. It appeared as ‘too frustrating life of a person with both hearing and visual impairment , ‘a disparate person who is no longer a deaf , ‘having an opportunity for empathy and awareness through participation in the bill debate , and ‘my disability wanting to be recognized as a Deaf-Blind person . Based on these results, it was confirmed that the disability identity was formed by giving up on the state of hearing and hearing impairment, asserting citizenship with a sense of belonging to a group through discussion meetings, and seeking to be recognized as a person with a Deaf-Blind. It was suggested that a law with a support system should be enacted. In addition, a person with a combination of visual impairment and hearing impairment must be called under the name of Deaf-Blind.
