국문 초록

장애인에게 있어 긍정적이고 발전적인 장애정체감 형성은 부정적이고 억압적인 장애정체감보다 삶의 질 향상에 밀접한 연관성을 가지고 있다. 특히 지적장애인에게는 지적장애인 당사자뿐 아니라 돌봄을 담당하는 가족에게도 큰 영향을 미치기 때문에 중요한 문제이다. 본 연구의 목적은 지적장애인이 사회 환경과의 상호작용 속에서 어떻게 장애정체감을 형성할 수 있는지 그 과정을 이해하는데 있다. 본 연구는 경도의 지적장애인을 대상으로 하여 장애인식, 장애정체감 등 장애정체감 형성 과정을 사례를 통한 질적 연구방법으로 탐색하였다. 긍정적인 장애인식은 발전적 장애정체감을 형성할 가능성이 높지만 대부분의 지적장애인은 자신의 장애에 대해 부정적 인식을 가지고 있어 억압적 장애정체감을 형성할 가능성이 더 많다고 할 것이다. 그러나 장애정체감은 고정·불변하는 것이 아니라 사회적 환경과의 상호작용 속에서 지속적으로 변화하는 것이기 때문에 언제든지 억압적 장애정체감도 발전적 장애정체감으로의 변화할 수 있다. 연구결과 지적장애인 당사자의 의지, 노력, 이타성, 가족의 지지 뿐만 아니라 사회성 향상과 사회적 지지체계망 확대 등 발전적 장애정체감으로의 변화를 위한 제도와 교육 등의 사회 환경적 여건 조성이 필요하다는 것을 확인할 수 있었다.

영문 초록

For the disabled, positive and developmental formation of disability identification has a close connection with improving quality of life rather than negative and oppressive one. It is a critical issue, especially for the intellectually disabled population. This is because it can highly impact on not only the disabled themselves but also the family in charge of care. The purpose of this study is to understand the process about how the intellectual disabled people can form disability identification through their interaction with the social environments. In addition, this research explored the way that how the disability identity can be formed by analyzing practical cases in such as awareness of their disabilities, formation of the disability identity. Although it is highly likely that having positive perception for their disability can result in developmental disability identity, it is also undeniable fact that most intellectual disabled population have a negative perception on their disability identities. However, it is highly possible that oppressive disability identity can be transformed into the development one, due to the fact that disability identity is not immutable but constantly changeable According to the result of this research, it is necessary to establish social and environmental system such as education and institution which can lead the intellectually disabled to developmental disabilities by expanding social support system. Furthermore, there is no doubt that personal efforts, altruism and family care are also need to be included for the development.
