국문 초록

본 연구는 비판적 교육의 핵심 개념인 비판이 자신의 의도와는 반대로 권력 구조에 흡수되고 있는 문제 상황에서 출발한다. 이에 본 연구는 비판이 현 시대에 어떻게 이뤄지고 있는지 검토하고 비판적 교육의 모순을 고찰함으로써 비판적 교육의 자기성찰을 자극하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 이를 위해 푸코의 초기 철학에 나타난 권력이론을 바탕으로 비판을 옹호하고 자율적 주체를 형성하고자 하는 교육이 권력과 지배관계에 어떻게 밀접하게 연관되어 있는지를 고찰하였다. 푸코의 권력이론은 개개인의 능동성을 부추기는 생산적 권력 개념의 이해를 주장하고, 지식과 진리를 추구하는 주체가 권력 행사의 산물이자 권력 산출의 장본인임을 강조하였다. 특히 규율 권력은 담론화와 가시화를 통해 일탈을 조절하고 정상화하는 테크놀로지로 작동하게 된다. 또한 푸코의 통치성 개념은 각 개인이 자신의 경제적 가치를 극대화하기 위해 자발적으로 권력에 예속하는 기업가적 자아상을 내면화하는 주체를 분석하는 데 유용한 이론적 틀을 제공하고 있다. 푸코의 권력 개념과 주체 비판에서 저항 가능성은 주체의 예속화 자체에서 창출될 수 있고, 이것은 권력의 전략적 입장에 대한 비판적 태도로 나타난다. 비판적 교육과 관련하여, 푸코의 이론은 현재에 대한 역사적 분석, 주체의 사회적 매개와 특정한 부정을 강조하고 있다. 이런 점에서 비판을 스스로 요청하는 교육은 역설적으로 자칫 통제와 지배를 강화시키는 딜레마에 빠질 수 있는 측면을 부단히 성찰하고 비판의 현재화를 분석할 필요가 있다. 이러나 논의로부터 본 연구는 결론에서 비판적 교육의 실현을 위해 교육(학)의 역사적⋅사회적 조건에 대한 통찰, 교육의 내적 균열에 대한 인식과 더불어 사회 변혁의 관념에 대한 자기비판적 성찰과 교육 주체들이 부자유의 경험을 자유롭게 이야기할 있도록 교육의 장을 마련하는 것을 제언하였다.

영문 초록

This study begins with the situation in which critique (or criticism), a key concept of critical pedagogy (or critical education), is absorbed by the power structure, contrary to one’s intentions. Accordingly, this study reviews how critique is presently enacted and examines the contradiction of critical pedagogy, thereby stimulating introspection (or self-examination) of critical pedagogy. To this end, this study examines based on the theory of power in the early philosophy of Foucault, how education, which supports critique and is intended to form an autonomous subject, is closely related to power and dominance. Foucault’s theory of power claims the need to understand the concept of productive power that encourages individual activity and emphasizes that the subject that pursues knowledge and truth is the product of power exercise and the producer of power itself. In particular, disciplinary power operates as a technology that regulates and normalizes deviation through discourse and visualization. Moreover, Foucault’s concept of governmentality provides a theoretical framework useful in analyzing how an individual internalizes the entrepreneurial self, voluntarily being subordinate to power, to maximize their economic value. The possibility of resistance in Foucault’s critique of the subject and concept of power can be created in subordination of the subject itself, which appears in a critical attitude toward the strategic stance of power. In relation to critical pedagogy, Foucault’s theory emphasizes the historical analysis of the present, social mediation of the subject, and specific negation. In this sense, it is necessary to constantly reflect on the fact that education that requests critique itself may fall into the dilemma of paradoxically reinforcing control and domination, and to analyze the making-present of critique. On the basis of this discussion, this study suggests in the conclusion that it is necessary to discern about the historical and social conditions of education (pedagogy) to fulfill critical pedagogy, engage in self-critical introspection on the concept of social reform in addition to perception about internal chasms of education, and establish the educational venue for educational subjects to talk freely about their experience of inconvenience.
