국문 초록

이 논문의 목적은 그간 한국여성운동에 나타난 통일담론을 고찰함으로써 통일논의에 유익한 시사점을 찾아보려는 것이다. 또한 기존에 통일담론 구분법이 되어 온 민족, 가치, 이익의 범주로 여성 관련 통일담론을 나누어 분석하고자 했다. 초기여성운동의 통일담론은 민족적･당위적 입장을 견지했으나 점차 평화 등의 보편적 가치와 결합하거나 또는 여성의 권리와 복지 등을 강조하는 방향으로 전개되었다. 그 주요 내용 및 시사점은, 첫째, 초기 민족 중심의 여성운동은 남북여성간의 만남을 성사시켰으며, 이것이 첫 남북간 민간인 교류가 되었다는 것이다. 이는 분단 이래 한국 시민사회의 큰 성과라고 할 수 있다. 한편, 남북한 가부장제의 전통과 문화는 극복되어야 할 과제로 인식되었다. 둘째, 여성운동의 통일담론은 독일통일 경험을 주목한다는 것이다. 특히 동독여성의 피해, 고난을 극복해가는 동독여성의 적극성, 서독여성들의 태도의 문제에 주목했다. 이는 통일 후 남한정부와 남한 여성이 반면교사로 삼아야 할 부분이다. 마지막으로, 현재 여러 가지 어려움에 처한 젊은 여성들과 영 페미니스트들에게는, 통일당위성이나 평화 등의 보편가치보다는 여성복지 등 여성 의제 마련의 중요성을 강조하여 관심을 촉구할 수 있다는 것이다. 분단 상황은 여성의 인권 침해와 피해를 초래하고, 또한 여성이 배제된 통일 과정은 여성의 인권과 지위를 보장하기보다 오히려 위협할 수 있으므로, 여성들은 통일 논의와 통일 과정에 적극적으로 관심을 갖고 참여해야 한다는 것이다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this thesis is to examine the discourse of unification that has appeared in the Korean women s movement so far, and to find useful implications for future unification discussions. In addition, it attempted to analyze women-related discourse by dividing into the categories of nationalism, universal values, and interests, which have been previously used to distinguish discourse on unification. The discourse on unification of the women s movement in the early days maintained a national and legitimate position, but gradually combined with universal values such as peace or emphasized women s rights and welfare. The emphasis of this thesis is that first, the women s movement in the early years brought about a meeting between South and North Korean women, and this became the first civilian exchange between North and South Korea. This can be said to be a great achievement of Korean civil society since the division. On the other hand, the tradition and culture of the patriarchy of the two Koreas was recognized as a task to be overcome. Second, the discourse on unification of the women s movement focuses on the experience of German unification. In particular, attention was paid to the problems of East German women, their efforts to overcome suffering, and the attitude of West German women. This is a part that the South Korean government and South Korean women should use as teachers for the other side after unification. Finally, for young women and young feminists who are currently in various difficulties, it is possible to urge interest by emphasizing the importance of preparing women s agenda such as women s welfare rather than universal values. Since the situation of division causes infringement and damages on women s human rights, and the unification process in which women are excluded can threaten rather than guarantee women s human rights and status, women must actively participate in discussions on unification and the unification process.
