국문 초록

음성은 20세기에 이르기까지 매우 잔약한 소읍이었다. 근대에 이르기까지 음성에는 이렇다 할 학맥이나 사족 층의 형성도 없었다. 그러나 충주와 인접하고, 서울과 경기로 통하는 길목에 위치하고 있어 동학농민운동과 의병 투쟁 등 근대의 물결이 거셌다. 음성지역 1900년대 초반의 사회경제 상황을 기록한 『陰城郡量案』과 『李郭抱寃錄』은 중요한 자료이다. 음성군양안은 토지의 존재 형태를 알려주며, 『이곽포원록』은 동학에 참여한 이른바 東學黨餘가 향촌사회에서 겪는 구체적인 실상과 추향을 알려준다. 음성에서 의병 투쟁은 전기의병인 1896년부터 전환기 의병인 1912년까지 17년간 면면히 이어져 왔다. 무극 장터는 동학 농민군과 의병의 주요 활동 거점이 되었다. 전기의병기 음성은 충주성 공략을 위해 의병을 소모하여 제천의병을 지원하는 후방기지 역할을 하였고, 실제 전투에도 참여하였다. 6월 8일에는 서행에 나선 류인석이 음성을 공격하여 큰 승리를 거두기도 하였다. 중기의병기인 1906년에는 보천주막과 무극장을 중심으로 의병이 활발하게 활동하였다. 1907년 8월 원주진위대와 청주진위대의 해산 이후 해산병의 의병 참전으로 음성의 후기의병은 활기를 띠게 되었다. 수차의 전투 중 이해 9월 19일 음성 서북방의 사정리에서 3백여 명의 의병이 일본군 足立支隊 二宮 소대와 3시간 가까이 벌인 혈전은 특기할 만하다. 음성에서 의병 투쟁은 전환기 의병기인 1912년까지 계속되었다. 음성에서 의병 투쟁은 전기부터 전환기까지 기록상으로 최소 30회 이상이 확인된다. 현재 음성읍 사정 1리 고개에 동학군 또는 의병 무덤으로 전해지는 무연고 묘는 사정리 전투에서 전사한 의병 6명과 관련이 있다고 판단된다. 그러나 이를 확정하기 위해서 반드시 시굴이나 발굴 등 고고학적 조사가 선행되어야 할 것이다.

영문 초록

Eumseong region was a small insignificant village until the 20th century of Korea. There was even no regional school relation or local worthies formed till the recent. Though the region didn’t be not influential, it located in the middle of Seoul and Gyeonggi(京畿) province and closed to Chungju(忠州) region, and the advantage of location germinate the Donghak-Peasantry-Movement(東學農民運動), and the Righteous Army Resistance. ‘Eumseong-gun Yangan(『陰城郡量案』)’ and ‘Leekwakpowonrok(『李郭抱寃錄』)’ is a significant document that recorded the socio-economical situation of Eumseong region at early 1900. ‘Eumseong-gun Yangan’ is demonstrating the format of the properties of at that time; ‘Leekwakpowonrok’ shows how remained partisan of Donghak who participated the peasantry movement live in the local community of rural area with concrete reality after the movement is completed. The Righteous Army Resistance in Eumseong region has it’s early period from 1896 until 1912 which the time of the transition for seventeen years. Muguk-market(無極場) came the main foothold of the activity for Donghak Peasantry Army, and the Righteous Army. In the early period of the Righteous Army, Eumseong played a rear base that recruiting the military for the justice and supports the military in Jecheon(堤川) and also participated in the actual battle. In the Jun 8th, Ryu, In-seok(柳麟錫) went to the west and then to attacked Eumseong. He achieved a big victory. In the middle of the period of the Righteous Army(1906), the Righteous Army works on the positive line centering on Bocheon-inn((甫川酒幕) and Muguk market. In the August 1907, after the Wonju-Jinwidae(原州鎭衛隊) and Cheongju-jinwidae (淸州鎭衛隊) dismissed, joined the Righteous Army, the army of the latter period at Eumseong soon warmed up. The Righteous Army and ninoniya(足立)’s platoon of Adachi(二宮)’s company had vigorously combat in the Sajeong-ri(沙丁里) in the northern west part of Eumseong on September 19, 1909. This bloody battle is worth to leave a historical record. The Righteous Army Resistance in Eumseong continued until 1912, the Righteous Army in the transformation era. From the early history until the transformation era, the match observed more than thirty times. In the moment, the hill on Sajung 1-ri in Eumseong-eup known as a grave of Donghak Army or the Righteous Army. Nameless grave in the location highly assumed that such grave are related to the six dead soldiers in the battle of Sajung-ri. However, to confirm the hypothesis, the further study of archeology, perspective and discovery.
