신라(新羅) 범종(梵鐘) 주악상(奏樂像) 연구성과와 교육 활용

국문 초록

본 연구는 신라 범종에 부조(浮彫)된 주악상을 연구대상으로 한다. 신라 범종에 나타나는 주악상 연구현황과 성과를 살펴보고, 나아가 범종의 주악상 연구 성과를 교육적으로 활용가능한 방안도 모색하였다. 초기 연구는 1960~1970년대에 진행되었으며, 신라 범종 주악상의 현황 파악과 소개가 있었던 시기이다. 중기 연구는 1980∼1990년대에 진행되었으며, 신라범종 주악상의 의미를 파악하고 문화사적, 역사적, 음악적 맥락을 연구하는 시기이다. 후기 연구는 2000년대부터 현재까지 진행되었다. 신라 범종의 과학적 분석기법 적용과 개별 범종에 대한 구체적이고 세부적인 사항을 연구한 시기이다. 신라 범종에 부조된 주악상 연구 성과를 바탕으로 교육적으로 활용할 방안을 모색하였다. 첫째, 신라 범종을 타악기로 인식하고 교육함으로써 한국 악기의 범주를 확장할 수 있다. 그리고 용뉴(龍鈕)에 새겨진 용(龍)과 당목(撞木)으로 사용하는 고래의 이야기는 스토리텔링으로 활용할 수 있는 교육재료가 된다. 학습자들의 학습 호기심을 자극하는 소재로 이용가능하다. 둘째, 신라 범종의 소리와 다른 나라의 종소리를 비교감상하거나 범종의 타점 위치와 세기에 따른 파동의 변화를 그래프를 보여주는 체험교육을 통하여 학생들에게 범종의 소리 원리를 이해하기위한 교육을 진행할 수 있다. 셋째, 학습자들에게 주악상을 그리게 함으로써 악기의 사실적 묘사가 아닌 심미적 아름다움의 상상력을 발현할 수 있게 한다. 학습자들의 감성과 심리상태까지 고려한다면, 음악교육을 바탕으로 인접학문과 연계한 다양한 교수법개발이 가능하다. 본 연구를 통하여 신라 범종 주악상을 불교(佛敎)에 국한하여 바라보는 관점에서 벗어나, 신라시대 음악을 연구하는 주요한 핵심어이자 악기교육의 중요 요소로 작동할 수 있는 가능성과 필요성을 확인하였다. 또한 신라 범종의 주악상 관련 논의와 연구가 음악분야에서 인접학문 분야로 확산되고, 신라 음악 연구와 악기교육 분야에서 본 연구가 작은 보탬이 되길 기대한다.

영문 초록

This paper investigates into the music performance images embossed on the bronze temple bells of the Silla Dynasty. Reviewing the current state of researches on the subject and their results, this study seeks for measures to utilize them for educational purposes. Early researches were conducted from 1960s to 1970s, introducing the music performance relievos on the bronze temple bells of the Silla Dynasty and figuring out the research status. Researches conducted from 1980s to 1990s focused on the meaning of the relievos and their cultural, historic, and musical context. Later researches have been conducted since 2000s until now, applying scientific analyses and studying concrete details of individual Buddist bells. Based on these research data of the music performance images on the bronze temple bells, this paper seeks for measures to utilize them for educational purposes: First, the range of Korean musical instruments can be extended by perceiving and educating Buddhist temple bells of Silla as percussive instruments. Also, the dragon image on the top of the Buddhist bells and the whale shaped wooden hammer can make good educational source of storytelling. Second, students can understand the sound mechanism of the Buddhist bells by experience activities either that shows the change of sound waves in accordance with the striking points and strength, or that compare the sounds of different bells from different countries to the Silla bells. Third, by making students draw the music performance scenes from aesthetic appreciation, not a realistic description of the temple bell relievos, educators can enable the students express their creativities. It is possible to develop diverse teaching methods associating with relevant studies based on music education if the students sensitivity and psychological state are taken into account. This study assures a possibility and necessity of the bronze temple bells to work as the critical factor for musical instruments education as well as a keyword for the Silla music researches. Also, it is expected that this study will help the studies of the music performance images embossed on the bronze temple bells of Silla to expand to relevant fields as well as the researches on the Silla music and the instruments education field.
