외This study focuses on Noron-line seowon located in Gyeongsangwoo-do.
This author mainly examines wonwoo from four seowon including Bangok · Okgye Seowon founded as the pure Noron line in the region and also Sinan Yeongdang · Guyeon Seowon that became Noron from a munung seowon.
Based on that, this researcher looks into the substantiality of Noron-line seowon in Gyeongsangwoo-do in terms of the force of foundation, financial grounds, ganghak (講學), enshrinement of portraits, range of the Noron line, and the
activities of gaining fame with Noron-line scholars.
Bangok Seowon in Geoje-do is such a symbolic seowon as it is the first one founded with Song Siyeol as its baehyangja (背鄕者) in Gyeongsang-do. It was led by Daegu Okcheon Jeonmun (沃川全門), the family of Song Siyeol, one of the representative literary persons in Gyeongsang-do, and accomplished with agreements from the local celebrities as well as support from the public sector(官). This seowon not only served as a momentum of spreading Noron-line seowon in Yeongnam but also set a good example regarding the mode of foundation. It was also a place receiving saak (賜額) on account of the political intention of Andong Kimmun (安東金門) during Cheoljong’s reign. Okgye Seowon in Samga-hyeon was the one developed from yeongdang built by Yun Bonggu’s literary person, Choi Namdu, to worship his master. The way of building and operating it reflects his mind and philosophy of respecting his own master. Above all, the journey of imo (移摹) on Yun Bonggu’s portrait reveals the true aspects of it and also the range of the Noron line in Gyeongsangwoo-do. This seowon is particularly noteworthy because they
enshrine Gyeongsang-do’s literary persons and Noron-line scholars in giho area that are hardly found in Gyeongsang-do. Sinan Yeongdang in Danseong-hyeon is a munjung sawoo in which two Noron-line families of the region enshrined Chu His and Song Siyeol in unity. Generally, non-namin wonwoo in Yeongnam were mostly promoted by the lead of sinhyang, but this yeongdang is distinctive in that it was founded and operated by an influential sajok family in Danseong-hyeon. Furthermore, as we can find rather abundant materials about Sinan Yeongdang, we can see the detailed aspects of it, for example, the organization, rules, financial grounds, or visitors of Noron-line seowon in the region.
Guyeon Seowon located in Suseungdae was the one that began with the characteristics as a hyanghyeonsa enshrining celebrities from the region. But as Sin Sui, one of the descendants transmitting Noron Nakron, took charge of its operation, it was elevated as a Noron-line munjung seowon. Taking this as a pivot, they carried out the tasks of gaining fame with their family and also Noron-line activities such as exchanging with the Noron-line celebrities in the
family, moving Seongcheon Seowon, or restoring the woogeoji of Song Jungil.
