국문 초록

본 연구는 대학입시제도의 변천과 문학정전화의 실질적인 효과에 주목함으로써, 1970년대 남한문학장의 ‘외부’에서 전개되었던 한국문학의 정전화 양상에 대해 살펴보고자 한다. 한국의 대학입시제도는 학생선발 과정에 있어 대학의 자율성이 점차 약화되고 국가의 관리체제가 강화되는 방식으로 전개되어 왔다. 해방 이후 1960년대 초반까지 국가권력은 입시제도에 직간접적인 영향력을 행사해왔지만, 학생선발 과정에서 전반적인 주도권을 갖고 있었던 것은 대학이었다. 대학별 단독고사(1964년~1968년) 체제하에서 교과서에 수록되지 않은 한국근현대소설 텍스트들이 입학시험에 두루 출제되었으며, 실제 교육현장에서는 작품에 대한 감상능력보다 특정 작가와 작품에 대한 문학사적 지식이 훨씬 중요한 의미를 지니며 학습되었다. 이러한 경향은 대학별고사와 예비고사가 공존하고 있었던 1970년대 말까지 지속되었다. 교과서에서 언급되지 않았던 작가와 작품들이 1960~70년대 대학별 본고사에 출제되면서 수험생들은 보다 적극적인 방식으로 ‘문학적 지식’을 습득할 수밖에 없었으며, 남한출판시장에서 신문학 60주년을 기념하며 기획·발간되었던 단편소설 선집들은 당대 교육현장 속에서 국정교과서의 빈틈을 메워주는 교육부교재이자 수험생들의 필독서로 읽혀졌다. 이러한 일련의 상황들은 특수한 ‘문학적 지식’이 입시제도와의 연관 속에서 반드시 습득해야만 하는 ‘앎’의 형태로 특화되어가는 1970년대 한국문학 정전화의 특수한 양상을 보여준다는 점에서 의미를 갖는다.

영문 초록

This paper examines the literary canon formation of Korean modern short stories conducted outside the literary field in South Korea, focusing on the changes in the university entrance system. From the time after liberation to the early 1960s, the government tried to exert its direct and indirect influence on the admission system. However, it was the universities that had overall leadership in the process of selecting university students. Under the independent examination system of each university (1964-1968), Korean short stories outside textbooks had been presented in the entrance exam. As a result, the historical knowledge of literature about particular writers and works became much more important than the appreciation of literary works in the field of the secondary educational system. Such an emphasis on the historical knowledge of Korean literature had continued until the late 1970s when the main examination (Pon’gosa) and the preliminary examination (Yebigosa) coexisted. In particular, some authors and works, not mentioned in the state-authored textbook (Kugŏ), were included in university entrance exams during the 1960s and 70s, forcing high school students to learn ‘literary knowledge’ in a more active manner. Literary anthologies of Korean modern short stories, which had been planned and published competitively in commemoration of the 60th anniversary in the publishing market in South Korea, were used not only as auxiliary textbooks but also must-read books for students, filling up the gaps in the State-authored textbook.
