김춘수의 ‘무의미’ 사유 방식 연구

국문 초록

본고에서는 의미와 무의미의 구분을 시인의 사유 방식과 관련된 것으로 간주함으로써 이른바 ‘무의미시’로의 전환기에 해당하는 시편들에 나타난 ‘무의미’의 의미와 김춘수의 실천적 지향을 살펴본다. 『타령조·기타』, 『남천』에 실린 일련의 시들과 김춘수의 시론을 고려할 때, 김춘수가 말하는 무의미시란 ‘대상=관념’이 삭제된 서술적인 이미지로 구성된 시에서 어떠한 이미지도 생성될 수 없는, 리듬만 남긴 시로 진화해 갔다. 이러한 김춘수의 ‘무의미시’는 관념과 역사가 재생산하는 편견을 파괴하기 위해 도입된 것으로, 이 편견을 극복하기 위해서는 시인의 성실한 허무가 필요하다. 그러나 그 허무마저 ‘편견=관념’으로 물화되는 순간을 피할 수 없기 때문에, 시인의 허무는 끊임없는 부정으로 현상하게 된다. 그렇기에 그 ‘허무의 순간’은 시인이 없앨 수 없는 마지막 남은 ‘관념=대상’이 되는 셈이다. 바로 이 점이 김춘수의 ‘무의미’가 ‘완전한 의미 없음’이 될 수 없는 이유이며, 동시에 김춘수의 ‘무의미시’가 단순히 언어의 실험에 그치는 것이 아닌 시인의 사유 방식 자체임을 드러내는 증거가 된다. 따라서 시인에게는 끊임없이 ‘대상=관념’을 삭제해나가는 ‘과정 자체’가 중요해진다. 이러한 관점에서 볼 때 김춘수가 처용, 이중섭, 예수 등에 천착했던 이유 역시 명확해진다. 김춘수는 관념과 역사의 폭력 앞에서 성실하게 자신의 고통을 견뎌나갔던 대상들을 통해 ‘허무적 사유’를 연장할 수 있었던 셈이다. ‘대상=관념’이 삭제된, 리듬으로만 존재하는 ‘무의미시’를 처음으로 시도했던 『타령조·기타』, 『남천』에 처용, 이중섭, 예수 등의 ‘대상=관념’이 존재할 수밖에 없었던 이유 역시 김춘수의 ‘무의미’가 ‘허무를 견디는 순간’을 붙잡기 위한 시인의 사유 방식자체였기 때문이다. 요컨대 시인에게 이 ‘허무의 순간’은 고통스러우면서도 피해갈 수 없고, 끊임없이 추구해야 하지만 영원히 완결될 수 없는 절대적인 ‘사유의 장소’였다 하겠다.

영문 초록

In this paper, the distinction between sense and nonsense is considered to be related to the Kim Chun-soo’s way of thinking. In this way, we examine the meaning of ‘nonsense’ and the practical direction of Chun-soo’s in the poetry corresponding to the transition period to ‘nonsense poetry’. Considering the series of poems in the Taryungjo and other works, Namcheon and Kim Chun-soo’s poetics, the ‘nonsense poetry’ of Kim Chun-su are first, poems composed of descriptive images with ‘object=idea’ removed, and second, only rhythms in which no image can be generated It is poetry. This ‘nonsense poetry’ of Kim Chun-Soo was introduced to destroy the prejudice of reproduction of ideas and history. To overcome this prejudice, it is necessary for the poet to be faithful nihility. However, even the nihility cannot avoid the moment when it becomes materialized as ‘prejudice=idea’, so the poet’s nihility appears as a constant denial. This is why Kim Chun-soo’s ‘nonsense’ cannot become ‘complete meaningless’. At the same time, this is evidence that Kim Chun-soo’s ‘nonsense’ is not just an experiment of language, but a poet’s way of thinking. Therefore, it is important for the poet to ‘process itself’, which constantly deletes ‘object=idea’. From this point of view, it is also clear why Kim Chun-soo was dealing with Cheoyong, Lee Joong-seop, and Jesus. Kim Chun-soo was able to extend the ‘nihility thinking’ through objects that had sincerely endured his pain in front of the violence of idea and history. There are also ‘object=idea’ such as Cheoyong, Lee Joong-seop, and Jesus in Taryungjo and other works, and Namcheon, the first attempts of ‘nonsense’. The reason is that Kim Chun-soo’s ‘nonsense’ was the poet’s way of thinking to catch ‘the moment of enduring nihility’. In short, for the poet, this ‘moment of nihility’ is an absolute ‘place of thought’ that is painful but cannot be avoided and must be pursued constantly but cannot be completed forever.
