비주얼 리터러시에 관한 시론

국문 초록

본고는 근대 카르테시안 퍼스팩티브의 이성적 논리와 텍스트 중심의 교육 안에서 발달한 좌뇌적 시각의 자기중심적 한계를 극복하기 위하여, 이미지를 보고 활용할 줄 아는 소양인 비주얼 리터러시를 시각과 미술 그리고 교육적 기능과의 관계 안에서 고찰하고 있다. 우선 시각의 특성을 우뇌적 시각과 좌뇌적 시각으로 구분하여 비주얼 리터러시는 시각적 사고와 시각적 인식의 훈련으로 보았다. 이는 관계와 감성, 직관과 직감 등으로 보는 우뇌적 시각을 활용하여 보고 그리는 시각적 자기표현의 과정에서 가장 효과적으로 발달한다. 이는 몸과 마음을 합일하는 전체성을 획득하며, 자기중심적으로 보는 시각의 함정을 인식하고 창조성, 통찰과 영성으로 연결된다. 영상 시대에 주체적으로 살아가기 위한 선한 눈(a good eye) 으로서 사회 공동체에 기반 하여 함께 공감하고 소통하는 끝없는 성찰을 요한다. 이러한 비주얼 리터러시로서의 미술을 두고 ‘과정중심 시각교육’으로 개념화하였다. 끝으로 자기중심의 좌뇌적 시각의 문제를 인식하고, 우뇌적 시각의 훈련을 위하여 비주얼 리터러시로서의 미술의 다양한 기능이 기초교과로서 역할을 해야 할 것을 제기하였다.

영문 초록

This article deconstructs the modern Cartesian perspective and the l-mode vision centered on the rational logic and text, and presents visual literacy as an alternative, which is a way to see and use images. First of all, this concept was defined and the goal was to train visual thinking and visual perception, focusing on the r-mode vision that sees with relationally and functions with one’s emotion, intuition, and intuition etc. The most effective way to train r-mode vision is to draw with the r-mode realistically, and acquires the totality unifying body and mind through the process of visual self-expression. This training connects with the creativity seen by the artist s eyes and acquires “a good eye” and practical wisdom to live alive in this image area. Vision has the pitfalls of self-centered perception, but it is also a pathway to insight and spirituality. This requires endless reflection from a shared spiritual practice. It was raised the necessity to expand these functions from art education to Process-Centered Visual Education based on social community.
