국문 초록

1970년대 미주 한인 시인들의 여러 시집은 다양한 주제의식과 표현 방식을 보여준다. 김송희와 최선영, 황갑주의 시집은 순수 서정과 향수를 주조로 하는 리리시즘을 지향한다. 김송희와 최선영의 시집은 자연물을 매개로 순수 서정을 드러낸다. 또한, 황갑주의 시집은 장소적 상상력을 배경을 미국에 정착하는 과정과 고향에 대한 그리움을 밀도 높게 표현한다. 고원과 장소현의 시집은 한국이나 미국의 정치 사회적인 문제점들에 대해 적극적으로 비판한다. 고원의 시집이 국내의 정치 문제에 비판의 강도를 높였다면, 장소현 시집은 미국 사회 내지는 한인타운의 문제점을 고발했다. 반면에 마종기의 시집은 이민자로서의 디아스포라 의식을 간직하면서 실존적 자의식을 빈도 높게 탐구했다. 박이문의 시집은 언어 실험과 전위적 상상을 통해 인간의 본성에 대한 철학적 인식을 보여주었다. 마종기와 박이문의 시집은 미주 한인시에서 찾아보기 어려운, 지적 성찰을 추구하는 모더니즘 시를 통해 깊은 인상을 남겼다. 이 시집들은 미주 한인 시사에서 중요한 의미를 지닌다. 그것은 미주시의 정착 단계를 강화하고 다음의 발전 단계로 넘어가는 데에 큰 역할을 담당했다는 점이다. 특히 당시 국내 시의 전개 과정, 즉 『현대문학』 계열의 리리시즘, 『창작과비평』 계열의 리얼리즘, 『문학과지성』 계열의 모더니즘 성향을 두루 보여준다는 점은 인상적이다. 이 시집들은 미주 시단이 하나의 지역 문단으로 정착하는 데에 커다란 역할을 담당한 것이다. 이는 시집을 발간한 시인들이 이미 국내에서 활동했던 경험으로 일정한 시적 수준을 확보하고 있었기에 가능한 일이었다. 이로 인해 미주 시단은 초창기 시단이 갖는 부실함이나 미진함을 넘어서고 있었다. 특기할 것은, 이들의 다양한 시적 성향의 밑바탕에 공통으로 디아스포라 의식이 직간접적으로 영향을 끼치고 있다는 점이다. 디아스포라 의식은 미주 한인시에서 어느 시기나 경향을 막론하고 나타나는 정신적, 정서적 밑바탕이라는 점에서 문학사적 연속성과 깊이 관련되는 것이다.

영문 초록

Korean American poems in the 1970’s illustrate various themes and poetic expressions. Song-he Kim, Seon-young Choi, and Gab-ju Hwang focus on lyricism that expresses lyric feelings and nostalgia. The poems of Kim and Choi reveal genuine emotions caused by natural objects. Hwang’s poems express his journey into settling down in the US through imagination on local America as well as nostalgia on his homeland, Korea. Wan Go’s poems and So-hyeon Jang’s poems criticize political and social issues of both Korea and the US. While Go’s poems harshly criticize Korean political issues, Jang’s poems focus on issues of the US or Korea Town in the US. Meanwhile, Jong-gi Ma’s poems explore existential self-consciousness embracing diaspora condition as an immigrant. I-mun Park’s poems show philosophical thoughts on human nature through linguistic experiment and avantgarde imagination. Ma’s and Park’s poems left deep impression on Korean American literary world through intellectual self-reflection that is one of the main themes of modernistic poetry. Those poetry collections have significant meanings in the history of Korean American literature. They play an important role in leading the smooth transition from the early stage of Korean American literature to its next level. In particular, those poems show the same poetic development as Korea’s at that time, which embraced lyricism that Modern Literature actively promoted, realism that Changbi advocated, and modernism that Moonji mainly promoted. These Korean American poems play a key role in helping Korean American poetry to become a sub-genre as a local American literature. This is because based on an experience to write poems in Korea, Korean American poets show poetic achievement and they were able to overcome poor poetic quality and immaturity that any poetic groups experience in an early stage. Specifically, despite their various poetic propensity, the common theme that those Korean American poets show directly or indirectly is diaspora consciousness. Because this diaspora consciousness is constantly shown in Korean American poetry in any period as a psychological and emotional background, it can be said that those poems have the continuity in terms of the history of Korean American literature.
