우리나라 상장 중소기업과 중견기업간 고용창출효과 차이분석

국문 초록

본 연구는 2011년부터 2017년까지 상장기업 패널자료를 이용하여 중소·중견기업의 고용창출효과 차이를 비교하고 각각의 결정요인에 대해 분석하였다. 표본기간 동안 중소기업은 평균 5.72%, 중견기업은 4.34%의 순고용창출을 보였으며, 패널모형을 통해 여러 요인들을 통제한 후 그 차이를 검정한 결과, 1% 유의수준에서 중소기업이 더 높은 고용창출효과를 가진다는 것을 확인하였다. 또한 중소·중견 기업 모두 기업규모와는 유의한 정(+)의 관계를, 임금과 근속연수와는 유의한 역(-)의 관계를 가지고 있었다. 하지만 중소기업은 수익성 등 현재 상황과 관련된 변수들이 유의한 반면, 중견기업은 성장성 등 향후 상황과 관련된 변수들이 유의한 결과를 보였다. 이러한 결과는 고용창출관점에서 현재 중소기업에 대한 정책적 지원이 여전히 유효하다는 것을 시사한다. 그러나 중견기업과의 차이가 크지 않아 중견기업에 대한 정책적 관심도 필요함을 확인할 수 있었다. 또한 중소기업과 중견기업이 서로 다른 결정요인을 가진다는 것은 정책당국이 중소기업과 중견기업에 대한 고용창출정책에 있어서 차별성을 가질 필요가 있음을 시사한다.

영문 초록

Using panel data on listed companies between 2011 and 2017, this research compared the differences in the abilities of SME (small and medium enterprise) and ME (medium enterprise) to create jobs and the determinants for job creation of each group. During the sample period, net job creation for SME and ME were 5.72% and 4.34%, respectively. After controlling for various factors, we found out that within 1% significance, SME had a huge impact on job creation. There was a significant positive relation between SME and ME and size, negative one with wages and long years of service. But whereas variables related to the current state such as profitability were significant for SME, those related to future growth potentials were significant for ME. The findings suggest that in terms of job creation, current policy support for SME are still valid. But small differences in job creation indicate that the government needs to pay more attention towards creating more policies for ME as well. And the fact that SME and ME have different determinants implies that authorities need to differentiate between job creation policies for SME and those for ME.
