무형자산 정보가 외국인 투자에 미치는 영향

국문 초록

기업 내에 무형자산의 비중이 증가함에 따라 글로벌 자본시장에서 기업의 가치평가 요소로서 무형자산의 중요성이 강조되고 있다. 본 연구는 국제적으로 중요성이 증대되고 있는 무형자산에 관한 정보가 외국인 투자에 미치는 영향을 실증적으로 분석하였다. 분석 결과, 기업 내 산업재산권의 비중이 높은 그룹에 속하고 등록특허 수가 많을수록 외국인 투자가 유의하게 증가하는 반면, 산업재산권 이외의 기타 무형자산 비중이 높은 그룹에 속하는 기업일수록 외국인 투자가 유의하게 감소하는 것으로 나타났다. 이는 기술 정보가 공개된 무형자산은 해당기업의 투명성을 제고함으로써 외국인 투자자의 투자의사결정에 유용한 정보로 작용하는 반면, 기타 무형자산은 외국인 투자자에게 불확실성을 초래함에 따라 기피되는 경향이 있음을 시사한다. 본 연구는 국제적으로 중요성이 증대되는 무형자산 정보가 정보비대칭이 높은 외국인 투자자에게 미치는 영향을 살펴본 최초의 연구이다. 또한 본 연구는 우리나라의 주요 투자 주체인 외국인 투자자가 성장잠재력이 높은 기업을 선호하고, 막연한 기술 자체보다 산업재산권을 통해 정보화된 무형자산을 보유한 기업을 선호하는 현상을 실증적으로 제시하였다.

영문 초록

As the proportion of intangible assets within a firm increases, the importance of intangible assets is emphasized as a valuation factor for firm in global capital markets. This study empirically analyzed the effect of information about intangible assets on foreign investment. The results show that the foreign investment is significantly increased as a firm belongs to the group with high proportion of patent assets and has more registered patents. However, the foreign investment is significantly decreased as a firm belongs to the group with high proportion of other intangible assets. This suggests that patent assets which disclosure technical information are useful information for foreign investors decision making by enhancing the transparency of firm. This study first examined the effect of intangible asset information on the attractiveness of foreign investment. In addition, this study positively suggests that foreign investors, as major investors in Korea, prefer firms with intangible assets that are informed through patent registration rather than vague technology.
