고유섭과 최순우의 한국미 담론과 미학 비교

국문 초록

한국 미술문화 전반에서 한국미의 특색을 규명하는 일은 매우 중요한 일이므로 많은 학자들에 의해서 지속적으로 연구되어 왔다. 그런데 지금까지 한국미의 특색으로 규정된 용어들은 대체로 고유섭과 최순우의 담론에서 크게 벗어나지 않고 있다. 그만큼 한국미를 연구하는 데는 두 사람이 영향이 큰 것이다. 이에 본 연구에서는 고유섭과 최순우가 어떤 가치와 의미를 가지고 한국미의 특색을 도출하고 담론을 이끌어내었는지 두 견해를 비교 분석하였다. 두 사람의 견해를 살펴보면 사용한 용어는 비록 다르지만 본질적인 의미는 크게 다르지 않다. 그러한 의미에서 고유섭과 최순우의 견해가 유사한 용어들을 대입시켜 그 사례를 분석하고 한국미의 특색을 좀 더 정확하게 이해시키고자 하였다. 한국미의 특색에 대해 고유섭은 무기교의 기교, 무계획의 계획 , 민예적인 것 , 비정제성 , 무관심성 , 구수한 큰 맛 , 기술적인 면의 상감기술 을 꼽았으며, 최순우는 같은 맥락으로 은근의 미 , 담조의 미 , 고요와 익살의 미 , 순리와 분수의 미 , 백색의 미 , 청자비색, 곡선, 상감기법의 독자적인 아름다움 을 꼽았다. 하지만 두 사람이 말한 한국미의 특색은 각각의 특색이 개별적인 의미를 갖는 것이 아니라 서로 교집합을 이루며 결국 특색 하나하나가 합쳐져서 한국미의 특색으로 귀결됨을 알 수 있다.

영문 초록

It is thought that because it is a very important matter to define the characteristics of the beauty of Korea, it has been studied by many scholars. However, those terms which are defined as the characteristics so far have never been contrary from the discourse of Yuseop Koh and Soonwoo Choi on the whole. Therefore, the present research has compared and analyzed the two s opinions to understand what value and meaning they have had in order to draw a conclusion on the characteristics of the beauty of Korea. It is shown that we can realize after examining their opinions that the terms they used are different but that essentially they are not so different in meaning. In that sense, the writer tried to make the characteristics of the beauty of Korea more precisely understood by substituting those terms in which they have the similar opinions. Concerning the characteristics of the beauty of Korea, Yuseop Koh pointed out technique with no techniques, planning with no planning , something that is folk art , no refining , indifference , delicate big flavor , and inlay techniques of technical aspect while Soonwoo Choi in the same context picked the beauty of secrecy , the beauty of serenity , the beauty of quietness and humor , the beauty of rationalism and discretion , the beauty of white , and the unique beauty of celadon s jade green color, its curve, and inlay . It is revealed, however, that what they talked about the characteristics of the beauty of Korea was, each characteristic did not mean individually, but that they compose the intersection of two sets and eventually each of the characteristics are gathered up, resulting in the characteristics of the beauty of Korea.
