국문 초록

본 소고는 한국적 다문화 상황을 현실적으로 고려하며 포스트모더니즘의 선구자인 미셸 푸코(Michel Foucault)의 권력과 통치성에 관한 사유체계를 점검하고, 푸코의 관점에서 한국적 다문화주의 전유 과정 가운데 나타난 반다문화주의 담론에 대하여 비판적 검토를 한 후에 나아가 한국 다문화 사회를 위한 신학적 고찰을 하고 한국의 다문화주의에 대한 제언을 하고자 한다. 먼저 푸코가 제시하는 생명 권력은 살게 ‘하거나’ 죽음 속으로 ‘몰아가는’ 권한이다. 한국 사회는 이제 반다문화 담론의 틀과 규범이 권력과 어떤 관계를 맺고 있는지 주의를 기울여야 하며, 고착화되어 영원할 것 같은 반다문화 담론이 ‘권력의 산물’일 수 있고 허구적이고 인위적인 장치일 수 있다는 사실을 기억해야 한다. 동시에 한국인이 아닌 사람과 한국인이라는 이항적인 ‘반다문화주의’ 등식으로 인하여 생존과 삶의 가능성으로부터 소외되고 심지어 추방당하는 이들이 구조적으로 발생해서는 안 될 것이다. 그것은 단지 삶이 불편할 거라는 막연한 논의가 아니라 언제든 생존권의 문제성을 내포하고 있기 때문이다. 푸코는 다른 포스트모더니즘 이론가들처럼 권력에 대하여 비판적이면서 해체해야 할 배제의 대상으로 간주한다. 하지만 현실적으로 사회를 움직이는 권력 자체를 해체하고 다른 대안으로서 보충제(supplement)를 찾거나 대체재(substitute)를 발견하기까지 우리 사회는 권력을 무시하고 권력을 해체하라는 푸코의 권고에 순응할 수 없다. 그렇기에 본 소고는 푸코의 권력 이론에 대한 전복적 해석을 제안하면서 한국 사회에 대한 비판적인 성찰과 함께 타인에 대한 환대(hospitality)를 수행해야 하며, 이러한 환대를 실천할 수 있는 기독교와 교회가 변형자(transformer)와 번역가(translator)로서의 역할을 수행할 때 한국 다문화 사회와 한국 교회의 미래를 담당해야 할 의무와 책임을 다할 수 있을 것이라고 믿는다.

영문 초록

This paper considers the Korean multicultural situation realistically, examines the system of thinking about the power and governance of Michel Foucault, a pioneer of postmodernism, and discusses anti-multiculturalism discourse in the process of accepting Korean multiculturalism from Foucault’s point of view. After a critical review, I would like to suggest a theological proposal for Korean multicultural society and make suggestions for Korean multiculturalism. Bio Power is the ‘power’ to make live. In addition, Bio Power is the power to let some die. Korean society should now pay attention to how the framework and norms of anti-multicultural discourse relates to power, and the fact that anti-multicultural discourse is likely to be a ‘product of power’ and a fictional and artificial device. At the same time, multicultural people should not be alienated by the binomial equation of Koreans and non-Koreans. It is not just a vague argument that life will be uncomfortable, but it is always a matter of survival rights. Foucault, like other postmodern theorists, considers the power an object of exclusion that must be critical and dismantled. But in reality, our society cannot comply with Foucault’s recommendation to dissolve power until we find a supplement or substitute as an alternative. For that reason, this paper proposes a subversive interpretation of Foucault’s theory of power and hospitality to others with critical reflection on Korean society. Besides I believe that Christianity and churches that must perform this hospitality to fulfill their obligations and responsibilities for the Korean multicultural society and for the future of the Korean church. And so as to practice it, they should serve as transformers and translators.
