국문 초록

본 연구는 인간의 고정관념으로 인해 의식과는 무관하게 ‘보는 것’과 ‘보이는 것’에 대한 의문에서 출발한다. 때로는 기존의 고정관념은 눈으로 보고 있는 것조차도 부정하게 만든다. 니시무라 료헤이(Nishimura Ryohei)는 ‘보는 것’과 ‘보이는 것’의 차이를 인간의 의식과 무관한 것으로 본다. 그는 존재의 현재화(懸在化)에 대해 지속적으로 탐구해 온 작가로, 1970년대부터 흙, 책, 돌, 아연, 철 등 다양한 소재를 가마(窯)에서 번조시켜 시각적으로 다른 물질로 변용시키는 작품을 제작하고 있다. ‘보이는 것’에서 비롯되는 오류의 유래에 대해, 그가 지목하는 것은 시각과 언어라는 고정관념 및 기성개념이다. 따라서 물리적인 시각과 언어보다는 내면의 시각과 언어를 통해 사물을 관찰할 때, 실체에 더욱 가까이 접근할 수 있다. 책 한 권을 고온에서 번조시키면 하얀 크레이프와 같은 상태가 된다. 이런 상태는 고정관념에 대한 의문을 제기한다. 하얀 크레이프를 우리가 알고 있는 책으로 보는 것이 과연 타당한가에 대한 의문, 즉 존재에 대한 의문이다. 작가는 이러한 상황을 ‘실체가 사라진 존재의 부재’라 칭한다. 이 질문을 ‘인간의 존재’로까지 확장할 경우, 다양한 고정관념 및 인간 존재의 가치와 마주선다. 인간의 오감과 사물의 관계를 철학적으로 접근한 니시무라 료헤이의 작품을 통해, 본 연구는 ‘존재의 부재’와 ‘부재하는 존재의 현재화(懸在化)’란 결국 인간이 만들어 낸 관념에서 출발한다는 점을 인지하고 도출했다. 다양한 사고가 요구됨에도, 현대 도자예술은 지극히 서정적이고 개인화 되어 가는 경향을 보인다. 본 연구의 의의는 니시무라 료헤이의 철학적 접근을 통해 존재에 대한 질문을 던짐으로써, 존재의 가치에 대한 인식 제고의 기회를 제공하고 현대 도자예술의 표현 범위를 확장시키는 데 있다.

영문 초록

This study starts from the question of seeing and visible state regardless of consciousness due to human stereotypes. Sometimes, existing stereotypes make you deny even what you see with your eyes. Ryohei Nishimura sees the difference between seeing and visibility as irrelevant to human consciousness. He is an artist who has been continuously exploring the present orientation of existence . Since the 1970s, he has produced works that have transformed various materials such as clay, books, stone, zinc, and iron into different materials visually by firing them in kilns. What he points to about the origin of the error resulted from visibility is the stereotype and established concept of perspective and language. Therefore, when observing things through inner perspective and language rather than physical perspective and language, we can approach the reality more closely. If you burn a book at high temperatures, it becomes like a white crepe or croissant. This state raises question about stereotypes. It is a question of whether it is reasonable to see white crepe or croissant as a book we know, that is, the question of existence. He calls this situation the absence of existence that has disappeared . When we extend this question to The existence of Human , we face various stereotypes and the values for human existence. Through Ryohei Nishimura s works that approached the relationship between human five senses and objects philosophically, this study recognized and derived that the absence of existence and the presentation of beings without reality eventually started from the idea created by humans. Even though various thinking is required, modern ceramic art tends to be extremely lyrical and personalized. The significance of this study is to provide an opportunity to raise awareness of the value of existence and to expand the scope of expression of modern ceramic art by asking questions about existence through Ryohei Nishimura s philosophical approach.
