드로잉에 있어서 선(線)의 표현에 관한 연구

국문 초록

본 논문은 예술 작품의 형성 과정을 중심으로 드로잉(Drawing)을 통해 선(線, line)으로 표현되는 논리(論理)와 직관(直觀)의 개념적 양상을 분석함으로써 현대미술 내에서 드로잉의 위치를 규정하는데 목적이 있다. 논리의 사전적 의미는 이치를 생각하며 분별하는 이론을 말한다. 즉 논리라는 말의 핵심은 합리성에 있다. 논리는 어떤 사실이나 형태를 인식하게 하는 사회적 약속에 근거하며 다분히 집단적이며 교육적인 측면이 있다. 따라서 논리는 수적인 질서를 포함하고 있는 반면에 직관은 판단 추리 등의 논리적 사유작용을 떠나 대상을 감각적으로 포착하는 것을 말한다. 그러므로 직관은 개인적이며 주관적 성격을 지닌다. 이 두 가지 상충하는 개념이 한 화면에 나타나는 독특한 작업으로 논리는 그림에 깊이와 구조적 안정감을 이끌어내고 직관은 개인의 개성을 창출하여 그림에 생기를 부여한다. 특별히 드로잉을 선정한 이유는 선이 비록 외각을 형성하는 경계적인 것이지만, 그 속에는 그림의 모든 요소가 포함되어 있기 때문이다. 그리고 무엇보다 직관을 설명할 수 있는 개성이 내포되어있다. 이에 본 연구자는 대가들의 드로잉을 주목하고 그 표현을 확대하는데 있어 기술적인 면을 강조한 논리와 정신적인 면을 강조한 직관이 드로잉을 통하여 나타나는 상호 작용적 양상을 고찰하였다. 본 연구에서는 반복적 노력에 의한 숙달된 표현이나, 논리를 거부하지만 논리적일 수밖에 없는 초현실주의는 배제하였다. 첫째, 논리적 측면에서는 예시작가로 레오나르도 다 빈치(Leonardo di ser Piero da Vinci, 1452~1519)와 피에트 몬드리안(Pieter Cornelis Mondriaan, 1872~1944)을 선정하여 고찰하였고 둘째, 직관적 측면에서는 빈센트 반 고흐(Vincent Willem van Gogh, 1853~1890)와 바질리 칸딘스키(Wassily Kandinsky, 1866~1944)를, 셋째로 중립적 측면에서는 폴 세잔(Paul Cezanne, 1839~1906)과 파블로 피카소(Pablo Ruiz Picasso, 1881~1973)를 선정하여 분석하였다. 연구를 통해 상반된 두 개념의 직관적 특성과 논리적 해석이 작품 속에서 조화롭게 결합될 때, 동반 상승의 시너지 효과가 극대화되고 있음을 발견하였으며 20세기의 드로잉은 추상의 흐름에 따라 점차 주관적 성격이 직관을 통해 표현되고 있음을 알 수 있었다. 작가의 작업 본능이란 논리적 작가는 직관을, 직관적 작가는 논리를 보충하기 위해 노력하며 그 수많은 노력의 결과로서 현대미술에 있어 드로잉의 가치와 위상을 본 연구를 통해 알 수 있었다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is on defining position of the drawing in modern art by analyzing conceptual aspect of logic and intuition expressed through the drawing, focusing on the process of artworks formation. The lexical meaning of a logic is thinking and discerning the reason. Namely a core of the word being logic is in the rationality. Thus the logic is based on social appointment which makes recognize certain fact and form. Also quite it has a aspect collective and educational and is including numerical order. On the other hand the intuition means apprehending objects sensuously not by logical thought act of judgment and inference. Thus the intuition is personal. A picture is distinctive work where two conflicting concepts appear on one screen. This means the logic and intuition should be there together in order a picture becomes the picture. The logic draws out depth and structural stability to a picture and the intuition gives liveliness with creating personal individuality. In studying pictures, the reason choosing drawing is that although a line, basic element of drawing, is thing shaping outskirts as a boundary line, there are contained all elements of picture in it. And above all in the drawing is connoted the individuality able to explain the intuition. I ll mean to study an aspect that the logic and the intuition is expressed on the pictures through the line of drawing with analysing works of great artists. In this study it is excluded things about skillful expression by repetitive effort or surrealism which can not but be logical in spite of refusing logic. In this study I analyzed Leonardo da Vinci and Piet Mondrian in logical aspect, Vincent Van Gogh and Wassily Kandinsky in intuitive aspect and Paul Cezanne and Pablo Ruiz Picasso in neutral aspect. Through this study I found that although conflicting two concept, when intuitive feature with logical analyzation harmoniously is combined, synergy effect is maximized and could know subjective feature of 20th century drawing is expressed through intuition according to the flow of the abstraction.
