공공디자인 측면에서의 도시재생 실행에 관한 연구

국문 초록

2000년 초반까지 우리나라의 급격한 도시화 과정은 신도시, 신시가지 개발위주의 양적 도시성장에 치중해 왔으나 도시화가 진정되고 국민들의 소득수준 또한 향상되면서 도시화 과정 속에서 형성되어 온 기성시가지 노후화에 대한 대응과 환경의 질적수준 제고에 대한 요구가 커져왔다. 이에 따라 도시재생에 대한 관심이 커지고 중소도시들의 도시재생 모델 및 지원 방안에 대한 많은 관심과 연구는 현재까지도 진행형이다. 본 연구는 이러한 배경 하에 도시 재생의 방법으로 산업유산의 보존과 친환경 개발, 문화컨텐츠의 접목을 중심으로 한 도시재생사업의 특성을 파악하고, 독일 루르지역 엠셔파크 프로젝트와 뉴욕의 하이라인 공원 사례 분석을 통해 산업유산을 활용한 공공디자인 방법론의 제안을 목표로 한다. 독일 루르지역 엠셔파크 프로젝트의 경우 기존의 원형이 손상되지 않는 범위 내에서 새롭게 디자인하였고, 뉴욕 하이라인의 경우는 식물 소재의 원형까지 철저하게 고증하여 새로운 식재 디자인에 반영한 사례로 과거 철도 경관과 식생이 어우러져 특화된 장소 이미지를 창출하였다. 이 두 사례 모두 과거의 공간을 최대한 보존하면서 도시에 새로운 가치를 부여하고 문화와 예술, 디자인과 혁신을 창조적으로 이루었다.

영문 초록

Until early 2000, the nation s rapid urbanization process had focused on quantitative urban growth centered on development of new towns and new cities, but as urbanization calmed down and people s income levels improved, calls for an improvement in the quality of the environment and response to the aging of established cities that have been formed during the urbanization process have grown. As a result, interest in urban regeneration and research on urban regeneration models and support measures for small and medium-sized cities are still ongoing. Under this background, this study aims to identify the characteristics of urban regeneration projects focusing on the preservation of industrial heritage, eco-friendly development and the application of cultural contents by means of urban regeneration, and to propose a public design methodology utilizing industrial heritage through the analysis of the Emscher Park Project in Ruhr, Germany, and the case of High Line in New York. For the Emscher Park project in Ruhr, Germany, the original prototype was redesigned to the extent that it would not be damaged. In the case of the New York High Line, the original plant material was thoroughly corroborated and reflected in the new plant design, combining the past railway landscape with vegetation to create a specialized site image. Both of these cases have given new value to cities and creatively achieved culture, art, design and innovation, while preserving the space of the past as much as possible.
