淸末 黃遵憲의 『日本雜事詩』ㆍ『日本國志』 著述과 그 史學史的 意義

국문 초록

黃遵憲(1848-1905)은 중국의 외교관으로서 1877년 일본에 부임한 이래 일본의 역사와 문화에 깊은 관심을 쏟게 되면서, 일본 지식인들과의 交遊를 통해 200여 권의 일본어 서적을 구득하여 정밀하게 분석하였다. 그는 그런 후 그 내용을 토대로 일본의 역사에 관한 집필에 매진하여 『日本雜事詩』(154首 原本, 1879년 初版; 200首 定本, 1898년 再版)와 『日本國志』(1887년 완성, 1890년 출판)를 저술하여 출간한 바가 있다. 황준헌의 『일본잡사시』ㆍ『일본국지』 저술이 지니는 사학사적인 의의로는 첫째, 『일본국지』의 國統志와 學術志를 통해 역사 발전의 大勢를 설파하였다는 점, 둘째, 鄰交志를 통해 국제간의 조약 체결 이후 형성된 세계 질서를 중시하는 관점에서 과거의 역사 문제를 서술하려는 집필 태도를 드러낸 점을 들 수 있다. 셋째, 당시 일본 현지에서 황준헌이 구하여 섭렵한 서적들이 이른바 皇國史觀에 입각한 것이었음으로 말미암아 자연히 『일본잡사시』ㆍ『일본국지』의 집필 내용에도 그러한 황국사관을 인정하는 문제점을 지니게 되었다는 점도 꼽을 수 있다. 그리고 넷째, 『일본잡사시』ㆍ『일본국지』의 저술 내용 속에서 황준헌이 中華主義의 傳統을 답습하는 경향이 매우 강했다는 점을 지적할 수 있겠다. 그런 가운데 황준헌은 上古 및 古代 韓國의 역사와 문화에 관련해 중국의 것을 참조하고 일본의 그것들만을 위주로 기술하면서도, 새로운 면모들을 밝혀 서술한 바는 높이 평가받아 마땅할 것이다. 上古 및 古代 日本의 국가 형성과 발전의 전개에 있어서 言語ㆍ文學ㆍ漢學을 비롯해서 科學ㆍ技術 분야에 이르기까지 학문ㆍ문화 및 기술의 발전에 크게 기여한 阿直岐ㆍ王仁ㆍ段揚爾 등을 위시한 여러 인물들의 구체적인 활약상을 그 당시의 시대 배경 속에서 시기별로 생동감 있게 입체적으로 서술한 점은 대단히 특기해야 할 바라고 믿는다.

영문 초록

Huang Zunxian (黃遵憲, 1848-1905), a Chinese diplomat , was much interested in history and culture of Japan since he took office in Japan in 1877 and so acquired some 200 Japanese books and analyzed them precisely through the help of Japanese intellectuals . Then , he poured his effort to write about the history of Japan based on those information and wrote , published Poems about Various Things in Japan (154 poems first edition in 1879; 200 poems second edition in 1898) and Treatises on Japan ( completed in 1887, published in 1890). Historical significance of Huang Zunxian s authoring of Poems about Various Things in Japan and Treatises on Japan is firstly that he elucidated the big dynamics of historical development in chapters of Record of the Nation and Record of Knowledge in Treatises on Japan . Secondly , from the standpoint of putting emphasis on the world order established following international treaty conclusions, he showed his intention to describe the historical problems in the pastin chapter of Record of Diplomacy . Thirdly , as the books he read through during his stay in Japan were mainly based on nationalistic historical view centered on the emperor, the contents of these two books had the problems of accommodating such historical view simply. Fourthly , it may be pointed out that in the contents of these books, there appeared his strong tendency to follow the tradition of Sinocentrism. Nonetheless, he deserves to be highly appreciated for the fact he revealed new aspects while describing focused on Japan s history and culture, referring to Chinese ones in connection with history and culture of ancient Korea . Of special note is that , in regard to the national formation of ancient Japan and historical developments , he described vividly , tridimensionally and by each period , detailed activities of a number of figures including Ajikgi , Wangin , Danyangyi who had greatly contributed to the advancement of knowledge, culture and technology spanning from language , literature , Chinese classics to the fields of science and techniques .
