『사상계』의 편집양식과 담론연구 (Ⅰ)

국문 초록

이 연구는 잡지매체를 중심으로 형성된 1950년대 한국지식인들의 담론지형을 파악해 보는데 목적이 있다. 이를 위해 1950년대를 대표하는 종합잡지 『사상계』를 연구 대상으로 하여 그 편집방향과 편집체계를 문제 삼았다. 당시 한국사회의 지적갈증 해소를 위해 선봉에 섰던 『사상계』는 『사상』에서부터일관되게 민중의 계몽과 교육이라는 편집방향을 제시한다. 『사상계』는 매호마다 기본 편집방향을 뒷받침하는 사회, 정치, 문학, 경제 등의 각종 특집을 기획하였으며 권두언을 통해 발행호의 편집 특성과 방향을 제시하였다. 『사상계』 잡지는 미공보원의 지원, OSS 출신 발행인, 대다수 서북 출신 집필진 등의 요소를 품고 출발하여 타 매체에 비하여 반공과 친미성향이 특히 강했다. 그리고 담론의 생산자인 동시에 적극적인 수용자이기도 했던 『사상계』 편집진은 같은 지역 출신의 비중이 컸던 이유로 결속력이 남달랐는데 편집진의 강화와 와해는 『사상계』의 성장 그리고 쇠퇴와 직결된다. 따라서『사상계』 편집위원을 포함한 주요 필진을 분석하고 또 편집양상을 살피는 것 은 시대를 대표하는 지성종합지 『사상계』를 다른 각도에서 분석할 수 있는 또 하나의 방법이 될 것이다. 물론 이 분석을 통해 『사상계』로 대표되는 당시 지식인들을 중심으로 형성된 담론의 생성과 수용에 관한 지형 역시 확인이 가능해진다. 연구의 범위는 『사상계』 205권 전부를 대상으로 하였으나 『사상』이 시작된 1952년부터 1959년까지 즉 1950년대의 『사상계』를 집중적으로 다루었다. 1960년대 『사상계』는 4.19와 한일회담을 기점으로 담론의 변화가 크게 나타나는 시기이므로 1950년대와는 그 담론지형을 구분할 필요가 있기 때문이다. 이 연구에서는 『사상계』 편집위원과 편집위원에 버금가는 무게로 활동한 주요 집필자에 대한 파악, 이들이 게재한 글의 경향분석, 각호에서 다룬 특집의 양상을 통해 1950년대의 『사상계』 담론을 논하였다. 무엇보다 이전 연구들의 오류 즉 『사상계』 편집위원에 대한 혼선된 정보를 바로잡을 수 있었던 것은 이 연 구를 통해 얻은 덤이었다

영문 초록

This study is aimed at finding out the discourse topography of the Korean intellectuals in the 1950s, which was formed around the magazine media. For this purpose, the 『Sasanggye』 which was the representative general magazine of the 1950s was selected and, we took issue with the editing direction and an editorial system. 『Sasanggye』, which was in the vanguard of solving intellectual thirst in Korean society at that time, since 『Sasang』, consistently suggests the editing direction such as public enlightenment and education. The editorial system, which has planned various special features such as society, politics, literature, and economics on every issue, supports the basic editing direction, while the introductory remarks of each issue also emphasizes it. And the『Sasanggye』, which started with elements such as support from the U.S. Information Service, publishers from OSS, and the great majority of the writing staff from north-western Korea, had a particularly strong tendency to anti-Communist and pro-U.S. propensities compared to other media. Also, the editorial staff of the『Sasanggye』 are both producers and active consumers of the discourse, and their reinforcement and disruption have a character of meaning the growth and decline of the 『Sasanggye』. Therefore, analyzing the characteristics of the major writers including the editors of the 『Sasanggye』 and observing the editing aspects reflecting social trends would be another way to determine the topography of the creation and acceptance of the discourse centered around intellectuals at the time. The scope of the study covered all 205 books of the 『Sasanggye』, but was focused on 『Sasanggye』 in 1950s, that is, from the year, 1952, which 『Sasang』 was begun in, to 1959. As the 『Sasanggye』 in the 1960s was a time when there were big changes in the discourse starting from 4.19 and Korea-Japan conference, it is necessary to distinguish the discourse topography from the 1950s. In this study, we discussed the discourse of the 『Sasanggye』 through understanding major writers of the same weight as the editorial staff as well as an editorial committee members, analyzing trends in the articles they published, and the pattern of the special features discussed in each issue. First of all, it was the bonus gained from the study that were able to correct the errors, that is, the mixed information about the previous study on the 『Sasanggye』 editors.
