칭의와 치유

국문 초록

칭의는 오직 믿음을 통해 일어나는 하나님의 죄 용서의 사건을 말하는 전통적인 신학의 핵심교리이다. 그러나 오늘날 대부분의 현대 신학자들은 칭의론을 일종의 신학적 공룡처럼 취급하는 경향이 있다. 그것이 16세기의 특별한 문제를 다루고 있기 때문에, 우리 시대에는 맞지 않다는 것이다. 그러나 칭의론은 우리 시대에 여전히 큰 의미를 갖고 있다. 만일 믿음에 의한 칭의가 현대적인 타당성을 갖지 않는다면, 그것은 우리가 그렇게 만들었기 때문이고, 우리 현실과의 관련성을 설명하지 못했기 때문이다. 최근 독일루터교회 연맹은 현대사회의 몇 가지 문제점들을‘업적’, ‘업적지향사회’등의 용어로 설명하였다. 이 용어들은 일과 지식을 통해 개인과 공동체의 삶의 의미와 목적을 규정하는 현대 서구문화의 경향을 나타낸다. 우리사회 역시 이미 업적지향사회에 들어서 있고, 많은 사람들이 업적이란 구조속에서 파괴당하고 있다. 이러한 사회적 상황 속에서 한국 교회가 치유목회혹은 치유사역에 관심을 갖는 것은 당연하다. 그러나 문제는 한국 교회의 치유목회 혹은 치유사역이 아직 자신의 자리를 정립하지 못하고, 성서적인 근거와 신학적 배경 없이 자신의 신앙경험이나 세속적 심리치료 이론에 치우친 경향을 나타내고 있다는 것이다. 이 글에서 우리는 칼 바르트의 칭의론의 핵심을 살펴보고, 이어서 칭의의 사회적 측면을 강조하는 오늘날의 새로운 칭의 이해를 통하여 이 칭의론이 어떻게 세계를 향한 선교적 선포의 주된 내용으로 새롭게 해석되고 목회현장에 치유의 복음으로 적용될 수 있는지를 살펴볼 것이다.

영문 초록

Justification is God’s forgiveness of sins that is through faith alone (Rom. 3:23-28). As accomplished and manifested in Jesus Christ, it means God’s free, unconditional, and unmerited acceptance of us in spite of our sin and alienation from God, from others, and from ourselves. What we could not do for ourselves has been done for us in Jesus Christ. However, most of contemporary theologians tend to treat the doctrine of justification as some sort of theological dinosaur. They regard the doctrine as contemporary irrelevance, but as only something in fossil form, that is, embodied in confessional documents in the sixteenth century. In fact, it is true that the doctrine of justification has quite relevance for our own time. If justification by faith has not contemporary relevance, it is because we have made it so and have failed to explain its power and relevance for our own reality. Recently, the Lutheran World Federation has expressed some problems of modern society in terms of ‘ performance,’‘performance-oriented society’. The quest for acceptance and the drive to succeed border on idolatry in our competitive society. Whether captured by the spirit of possession or success, we are driven by the desire to make it, to feel valued, accepted, and loved. In all these respects, anyone who thinks that the doctrine of justification has no relevance for people in our sophisticated society captive to many kinds of addictions - whether of money, work, leisure, fame, sex, or the more frequently mentioned forms of substance abuse - is simply out of touch with common experience. According to D. L. Migliore, this day a powerful expression of the doctrine of justification comes out of the struggle of blacks for justice and freedom in North America and South Africa. Animportant element of the message of such eloquent preachers such as Martin Luther King, Jr., Jesse Jackson, Allen Boesak could be summarized as follows: “ we are somebodies.” Interpreted in light of the Gospel
