국문 초록

일반적으로 민족을 구별하는 가장 배타적인 특징은 언어와 종교이다. 루시지역은 고유한 언어(벨라루스어, 우크라이나어)를 가진 동시에, 우니아트교회라는 특수한 종교를 가진 경험을 공유하고 있다. 이 논문은 루시지역에서 우니아트교회의 성립·전개과정 및 그것이 지역 역사와 문화에 미친 영향을 연구한 것이다. 폴란드·리투아니아연방에서 바실리우스 수도사들은 ‘우니아트=루시’의 관점에서 우니아트교회를 루시지역에 이식시키기 위해 노력하였다. 그러나 이는 ‘정교회=루시’ 관점의 정교회측에 대한 기득권 박탈로 나타났고, 이를 둘러싼 갈등이 폭력화하여, 결과적으로 훗날 현실정치에 의해 우니아트교회의 해체로 이어졌다. 그러나 한편으로 우니아트교회의 융성은 루시인의 계몽에 기여하고, 바로크문화를 꽃피웠다. 이는 루시 정체성의 기초가 되었지만, 동시에 폴란드화도 가져왔다. 따라서 연방에서 루시지역은 루시와 폴란드가 혼합된 새로운 양상의 사회와 문화를 형성하기 시작하였다고 할 수 있다. 그러나 다만 이것이 루시의 정체성으로 확고히 뿌리내리지 못하고, 여전히 폴란드와 러시아가 혼재된 이질성에 머물고 있었던 것이다. 한편 정교회는 ‘우니아트=폴란드화’의 관점에서 우니아트의 확장에 강력 저항하였고, 카자크의 후원아래 있던 키예프지역에서는 이것이 폭력적 대응으로 나타났다. 이로 인해 흐멜니츠키봉기와 폴란드·러시아전쟁이 발생하고, 이는 결과적으로 러시아가 루시지역에 진입할 수 있는 계기를 주고, 나아가 결과적으로 훗날 루시의 대부분 지역이 러시아에 병합되는 단초가 되었다. 즉 우니아트교회는 루시지역의 정체성 확립에 기여했지만 동시에, 주변국으로 하여금 종교적 명분의 개입을 초래함으로써 루시지역의 독자적 공동체 수립을 지연시킨 측면이 있다.

영문 초록

Language and religion are the distinct features to categorize nations. Ruthenians have shared their own languages (Belarusian and Ukrainian) and experience of a unique religion, called the uniate church. This study is focused on the foundation and spreading process of the uniate church, and its impact to history and culture of the Ruthenian region. In the period of Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, on the basis of a viewpoint of Uniate=Ruthenian , Basilian monks had made every effort to transplant the uniate church into the Ruthenian society. It came into conflict with the Orthodox church, which had a viewpoint of Orthodox=Ruthenian . The uniate had deprived the Orthodox of the vested rights, consequently the conflict turned into violence, such as Vitebsk Uprising and Khmelnytsky Uprising. At the same time, the development of the uniate church had contributed to the enlightenment of Ruthenians, and enriched the culture of the Baroque. It leaded to forming the basis for the identity of Ruthenians, on the other hand it incurred polandization. Therefore a new melting form of society and culture was created by combining Ruthenian and Polish cultures and religions. Ruthenians could not be united with a centripetal force of national identity, but had been be staying at the heterogeneity of a mixture of Polish and Russian culture. Meanwhile the orthodox church had put up a strong resistance against spreading the uniate with taking a view of Uniate=Polandization , and in the region of Kiev, which was under control of the Cossack, the situation became violent and developed into Russo-Polish war. It had given Russia a cause for intervening in the conflict between the uniate and the orthodox, and as a result, most areas of Ruthenia was annexed by Russia, and finally the uniate church was abolished. In conclusion, the uniate church could contribute the establishment of Ruthenian identity, meanwhile, had caused the surrounding nations intervention on the basis of religious justification and eventually delay the establishment of Ruthenian sovereign state.
