포은의 언양 유배가 언양지역에 끼친 영향과 그 의미

국문 초록

이 글은 포은(圃隱) 정몽주(鄭夢周)의 언양(彦陽) 유배가 언양지역에 어떤 영향을 끼쳤는지를 살펴보고, 그것이 어떤 의미를 가지는지에 대해 탐색 하는 것을 목적으로 작성되었다. 지금까지 포은의 언양 유배와 그가 남긴 시에 대한 고찰이 없었던 것은 아니나 대부분 포은의 전반적 생애와 문학작품의 특징적 면모를 설명하는 과정의 일부로 다루어졌을 뿐, 포은의 언양 유배가 언양지역, 특히 지역 사족사회에 어떤 영향을 끼쳤는지에 대한 탐색은 시도되지 않았다. 본고에서는 이런 점에 유의하여 논의해 보았다. 먼저, 포은의 언양 유배 기간이 지금까지의 연보나 논저에서 파악한 것보다 짧다는 새로운 의견을 제시했다. 이는 본고의 주안점과 직접적인 연관은 적다. 그러나 만약 실제 유배 기간이 지금까지 파악된 것보다 훨씬 짧다면, 그 공백에 대한 탐색이 필요하다는 점에서 의미를 가진다. 다음, 현재 유포되고 있는, 포은의 적소가 요도였다는 점에 대해 의문을 제기했다. 18세기 중엽 이후 1930년대까지 발간된 울산 읍지류에 반구대는 포은과 관련된 곳으로 분명하고 꾸준하게 언급된다. 그러나 요도는 읍지의 항목에 등장하는데도 포은과의 관련성은 전혀 기록되어 있지 않다. 다음, 포은의 언양 유배가 지역사족사회에 끼친 영향을 살폈다. 잠시 머물다 간 인연이긴 하나 포은이 남긴 불사이군의 충절과 도학적 삶의 행적은 언양지역 사족이 반고서원을 건립하는 동력이 되었고, 반고서원이 훼철된 뒤에는 포은대영모비를 건립해 자신들의 삶의 지향을 설정하게 하였다. 마지막으로, 포은이 언양에서 지은 시 한 수가 언양지역한문학에 어떤 영향을 끼쳤는지에 대해 살펴보았다. 포은의 시는 조선 후기 언양지역 사족은 물론 반고서원과 반구대를 찾는 원근의 문사와 관원들에 의해 끊임없이 차운되고, 기문과 서문, 비문을 낳게 함으로써 이 지역 한문학 발전에도 일정한 영향을 끼쳤다. 포은의 언양 유배는 언양이 울산과 통합된 현재까지도 이 지역에 여전히 영향을 끼치고 있다. 그런 점에서 그에 대한 다양한 사업이 지역에서 진행되는 것은 당연하고 일면 바람직한 일이다. 다만 그것에 앞서 보다 면밀한 사실의 재구가 필요하다고 할 수 있다.

영문 초록

This research paper has a purpose of looking into an influence of Poeun Jeong Mong-ju’s exile to Eonyang region and investigating its meaning. There were some studies about Poeun’s exile, however, most of those were treated as a part of explaining Poeun’s life and characteristics of his literature only. This paper gives more attention to an Eonyang region, especially to a regional clan society which was influenced by Poeun’s exile to this area. At first, I proposed a new opinion that Poeun’s actual exile period was shorter than expected by existing chronologies and statement writings. Though, this is not directly concerned with this paper’s purpose, it is meaningful in the perspective of the necessity for investigating this time gap, if his exile period was shorter than what we know about. Secondly, I raised a question that if Yodo was an Poeun’sactual place of exile. In town chronicles of Ulsan which were issued from the middle of the eighteenth century to 1930’s, Bangu-dae was referred clearly and repeatedly as related place to PoEun. However, Yodo was never mentioned as related place to PoEun even though Yodo was listed on town chronicles of Ulsan. Thirdly, I investigated an influence of Poeun’s exile to Eonyang to a regional clan society. Even though Poeun’s exile period was short, his royalty of refusing to serve two kings and ethical lifestyle had become a dynamic of constructing the Bango memorial hall by members of Eonyang clan society. After the Bango memorial hall was removed, Poeun’s spirit influenced people to establishing their own life orientation by constructing a gravestone of Poeun’s great mausoleum. Lastly, I explored an influence of a Poeun’s poet which was written while his exile to Sino-Korean literature of Eonyang region. Poeun’s poet was repeatedly copied not only by scholars in the late of the Chosun Dynasty but also by a literary man and a public official no matter how they are distant from Eonyang or not. Also, his poet has influenced to a development of this region by giving birth to memorandums, prefaces, and epitaphs. Poeun’s exile to Eonyang is still influencing this area even after Eonyang had been united to Ulsan. In this point of view, it is natural and right to progress various businesses which are related to Poeun in this region. Merely, before progressing those businesses, there is a necessity for a close reconstitution.
